was received from the uxbridgescott historical society bicentennial project study proposed uxbridge uxbridge township council recently agreed to have an impact study conducted on the township by the ontario ministry of revenue to de termine property assess ment rates administratortreasurer ron kester said the study wouldnt be completed until about july or august 1984 and the assessment would be based on a 1980 market value then they the gov ernment decide whether or not to implement it he said if the study found property assessments to in- crease or decreaseit wouldnt affect taxes until 1985 all residential com mercial and industrial property will be involved in the study according to kester the present assessments are only based on the 197374 tax year committee requesting 1000 of the grant be donated to the society for bicentennial projects in 1984 one of the proposed activities was to host a quilt block contest each quilted block submitted would have a bicentennial theme and each one would be placed on dis play for a few weeks after the contest ended two of the many blocks would be picked by judges as the winners they would be attached to the centre of a quilt which would be displayed at the museum and other public locations until the end of the bicentennial year the estimated cost of the quilt contest is 300 of the 300 150 would be used as prize money for the winners the second project is to find and copy out pictures dated on or before the 1900s once collected the prints would be placed on exhibit and later preserved the estimated cost based on 100 pictures is 700 applications fail short of goal uxbridge the township of uxbridge is still accept ing applications for 1984 township boards and committees since only one new application has been received since the closing date said town clerk walter taylor on the deadline december 30 1983 only 15 applications had been received at the municipal offices fourteen of the 15 applications were from previous board and regional road 8 lot 30 cone 5 which will even tually replace the three operating work depots in uxbridge township the 18foot high 13200 square foot depot which was slated for a completion date of nov 1983 should be finished within approx imately 12weeks said town clerk walter taylor the new depot will store trucks graders loaders and sanding equipment there is only one change in the original contract which costs an extra 17500 it in volves the installation of six inch reinforced concrete floor slabs and a central trench drain which totals approximately 9600 square feet in the six unheated stor age bays the heated area contains a 20 by 60 foot vehicle wash bay a 20 by 60 foot vehicle repair bay a supervisors office storage room lunch room to accommodate approximately 20 em ployees washrooms a iocker room designed for about 20 employees mechanical and electrical rooms a threeton monor ail and a janitors closet and slop sink the depot is heated with the cheapest method possible propane the company hired to build the new depot is van tage building corporation of 850a alness st down- sview once the new depot is con structed the ones which are in current use in goodwood and sandford will be closed and the uxbridge depot now in use will be used for storing equipment optimists try joining some clubs uxbridge in an attempt to reaquaint diffe rent community service club
