season he will be ably supported by kevin francis and darron baston keith acton acton playing for north stars keith acton montreal canadiens centre and stouffvilles favorite hockey player received his marching orders from general manager serge savard on friday acton 25 who reg istered 24 goals last sea son heard at 3 pm on friday that he along with injured right- winger mark napier had been transferred to the minnesota north stars in exchange for forward bobby smith the stars also get a thirdround pick in next junes national hockey league entry draft which the canadiens got last season fro m toronto maple leafs for centre dan daoust and de- fenceman gaston gingras the slightly built acton considered one of the fastest players in the league- has collected s three goals and seven assists so far this sea son and although seemingly happy with the canadiens his fans always felt that he was never allowed to show his full potential in de ference to veteran goal getter guy lafleur with the canadiens sitting at the bottom of the adams division at 4- 50 and the stars prop ping up the norris divi sion at 361 it was in evitable that both teams would make changes be- fore the season got any older however a lot of acton fans feel the trans fer is more of a sop to lafleurs ego than any thing else although savard insists were not building for lafleur were building for the canadiens midget player david chilvers a grade 9 student at sdss follows in brother jims footsteps as a volleyball player his team came second in the north v south battle at sdss and dropped only one game all powerplay effort by cliff frecklton assists going to lee brown and mike anderson according to coach jack watson they not only gave away three goals they giftwrapped em refer ring to their slowness in the corners but at the same time giving them an a for effort we keep losing the puck in our own end because we are not quick enough off the mark he concluded saturday nights home game against bewdley re quired no great effort by the clippei s although the score should have been a lot high er for the clippers that is lee brown returning af ter suffering a separated shoulder celebrated with a pair decided in the first frame the clippers have three successive home games starting saturday when they meet port perrry at 8 pm sunday at 7 pm against lindsay and an 8 pm game against lakefield on wednesday nov9 inaay opinion by jim holt trustee agrees site tod small had a few words with school trustee harry bowes last week his conversation confirmed what i already knew that the board of educa tion will hot allow any further sale of ground for the buidling of a complex confirming the statement by kim rogers in last weeks edition of the tribune bowes also feels that the present landlocked site would not serve the requirements of a com plex and that the town should look to the future by buying a large tract of about 20 acres considering that board of education poli cy requires a minimum of eight acres for elementary and eight een for secondary schools on which to build its not an un reasonable conclusion his views seem to coincide with a number of people particularly thosewhc i donot have their vision obscured by political considerations not to mention those with ambitions in that direction following my con versation with bowes i contacted board of education director bob cressman who told me that board policy pre cludes the selling off of any more land other than the 65 acres already agreed upon he concluded his statement by saying i most cer tainly would not recom mend to the board the disposal of any further parcels of ground and im sure the ministry would not acceed to such a request this leaves the town with a rather expensive piece of real estate 430 acres and nowhere else to go other than 500000 for- the abbatpirs 225 acres which would raise the total figure up to around 100000 an acre sheer madmjss when there is forty acres just up the road going for 8000 an acre it doesnt make senset what council has done although until now it has been kept a secret is ask the planning peo ple to present a plan that will accomodate a scaled down version of a complex in f act whittle it away until it fits is it any wonder that our mayor is confident that the site can accomo date a complex the question is with what kind of a halfbaked compromise will they present us win
