sa4 wednesday june 8h8 i mail what bear editor v councillor jim sanders vstate of the union address concerning the complexities of the recreation centre issue creates for me some confusion and considerable dis tress m c i would have thought after all this time the planning process would have been completed it now appears there hasnt been a deci sion to build let alone what to build while i appreciate jim sanders desire to plan for the future the council must decide in the present if they want to plan anything mr sanders leaves the impression theres no agreement on this score i concur with your papers edito rial that council should level with the electorate and let the peo ple know exactly where they stand i feel a project of this magnitude should have 100 per cent support of our elected representatives sincerely edwin perkins rr 3 stouffviue confused dear editor mayor kings comments re a proposed recreation complex for whitchurchstouffville tribune issuemay 25 confused me he stated according to your story that council is reluctant to approve a fundraising campaign until the towns wintano grant ap plication is approved does this mean therell be no campaign and no complex if the wintario grant is turned down it would seem so i would suggest a fundraising campaign be started regardless of wintario well obviously need the money sometime the present are na wont last country by audrey green j 6402100 editorials a new beginning in recent months town council has come in for considerable criticism most of it related to the proposed recreation complex residents at least the resi dents weve talked to are looking for visible signs the project is to proceed theyre impatient and so are we however we dont be lieve in continually regurgitating the same sodden fodder for it reaches a point where were simply repeating that which has been said a dozen times be fore besides there are occasions when council accomplishes something worthy of positive comment that something occurred friday the longawaited start on the 575home dulverton de velopment while the inauguration of this project was extremely lowkey the mayor the builder and a backhoe the favorable impact this subdivision is bound to have on the community boggles the mind for if the five model homes sell and we believe theyll sell quickly one hundred more will follow and 470 following that its the best thing to happen here in twen ty years while the negative aspects of this re sidential buildup will undoubtedly be the market is right the infusion of residential corpuscles into the lifestrcam of anaemic whitch urchstouffville couldnt have occurred at a more opportune ti me for the donor as well as the patient only the first basement of hopefully 575 homes has been excavated and already were witnessing a new attitude within the business community here where theres life theres hope s also the sales potential in the real estate market is extremely encourag ing houses are moving here at prices much above the range posted on new homes by the builder we predict once the company sales j office is opened wouldbe owners will be standing in line why because interest f rates are now within reason the homes are quality constructed and theres no finer place to reside in york region pushed to the limit the benefits are so absolute so unlimited the obstruction ists must be ignored for the good of the town thats exactly the tack we intend to take to mayor eldred king members of council past and present and all others involved in this rewarding but complex undertaking our congratulations we see the municipality stouffviue in par ticular on the verge of a new era an era we look forward to with confidence and enthusiasm where tostart thatsthe first thing that came to mind when editor jim tho mas asked me to introduce myself through the media of a personal column well hello im audrey the one with the big grin in the introductory photo and im the most recent addition to the tribunes editorial staff although im new in town im really looking forward to having both the york and durham re gions as my second home as far as my past history goes i guess you could place it under the classifica tion of x seriously folks im not quite that bad i spent four years obtaining my educa tion at humber college and by the time i left it was with an honors diploma in jounalism let me tell you i think my parents are still in shock because i was never one for voluntary education much of my journalistic experience has come from working at jobs and in ternships these places includedtopic newsmagazine in bradford coven humber colleges student journalism newspaper where i tackled the job as managing editor and editor the globe and mail for a one week stint and last but not least ive dabbled in some free lance writing for greenhouse canada magazine and the toronto star as a cubreporter whos new to the community im sure it will take me a little time to plant my feet firmly in whitchurchstouffville soil and gain my bearings but i love to learn and meet new people so im sure it wont take too long ive been assigned to cover the picker- inguxbridge areas of durham region although this will be my main beat ill also be actively involved in happen ings in whitchurchstouffville since i was born and raised in etobi- coke and have a city- oriented upbring ing dont besurprised to catch me en joying the beautiful scenery and taking in the smalltown atmosphere i must admit the people ive met in my travels since i started working at the tribune have been very kind and helpful and i must confess it sure beats the ofttimes coldness of the city one thing ive noticed in the short time ive been here is the towns quaint and elegant appearance at an early hour this sure helps perk me up since ive never been a morning person ive inherited the nightowl syndrome also please excuse me if i seem a touch limited when it comes to talking or understanding the full terminology and language common to a farming com munity it will take me sometime to fully understand the agricultural way of life unfortunately i was brought in concrete surroundings with subways and patches of green grass sprouting from between the sidewalk cracks t as a stranger in your midst ill de finitely try my best to get to know mosl of you and i really hope most of you will try and get to know me actually i may not be a stranger too much longer because in trying to commute every day to work it does tend to become a little hectic therefore i may start to look for closer accommodation in the area quite soon i would also like to stress the fact that working for a community newspaper is important to me because it deals direct ly with people and whats happening in their lives the people are the ones that make up a community and thats important i real ly enjoy the news aspect of a community paper but whats just as important is what you the people think and what your interests are i hope youll give me a call im looking forward to talking and meet ing with you personally well as i said before im not very good at talking about myself but ill say this im a fun person i enjoy life and i dont bite smile graduating class at orchard park public school 196768 this year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of orchard park public school in stouffviue to celebrate the occa sion a
