and have executed the defendant before he has his day in court i refer to your article in last weeks tribune entitled local organizations in bid for prime icetime this is news to me because i did not know that minor hockey was in a bidding war with the adult hockey enthusiasts over minor hockey ice time is the tribune again trying to promote the same type of friction that took several years for both our organiza tions to straighten out this has been a bad year for our junior c clippers but we are not alone harold ballard and the leafs are struggling as well yet no one is trying to dump them from their prime time this may be an exaggerated analogy but the same analogy could be applied to all of our omha representative teams that are not winning besides the junior club is not out of the playoffs yet many people involved with the junior c club have de voted countless hours of trying to bring some respec tability to the team and orga nization however your kind of editorializing does little to promote enthusiasm every one loves a winner but we need the support of the press and the community to make it succeed economically no team whether it be junior a b or c or even an omha rep team is in a position to estimate its finan cial worth until playoff time how far you progress in the playoffs determines whether you operate in the black not many teams in ontario oper ate in the black besides junior hockey was intro duced to stouffville in an effort to provide extended jockeycareersforplayers past juveniie age maybe this is no longer a valid reason to retain our junior club but that does not mean we are willing to give up prime icetime the whitchurch- stouffville minor hockey association has several plans for promoting hockey to age groups not currently covered by any local prog rams we also would like to expand our select team in volvement and our house league these are as we see it viable alternatives to our junior program should it not succeed over the next sever al years as president of minor hockey i would be pleased to discuss our plans and objectives with other local associations i dont howev er appreciate being blind- sided by activists promot ing changes to our organiza tion based upon one bad year it seems that maybe the other organizations should address their prob lems and leave ours to minor hockey we have over the past few years tried to provide a high calibre of junior hockey in stouffville many players have moved from our minor system to play junior b and a elsewhere junior c provides a place for others to play junior calibre hockey which would not have been available otherwise they provide many hours of entertainment for yourself and other townspeople a number of old timers played junior hockey in years gone by lets not pro nounce judgement until court is in session get out and support the junior c clippers yours truly john hutchinson president wsmha hockey jackets wsmha hockey jackets will be available for collec tion this thursday dec 23 at latcham hall from 7 to 9 pm purchasers are re quested to collect them at this time otherwise they will not be available for collec tion until after christmas so if someone special out there is hoping to find it in his stocking dont leave it too late defender forbes stanway no 6 seems to be thoroughly en joying sundays battle of the giants between stouffville travel and canadian tire red wings along with the rest of the travel de fense forbes gave excellent cover to their goalie doug rex- graham seen here in one of his more hectic moments as the red wings swept away travels strong challenge to topple them from first place in the league roster jim holt powerplays sink hopes of junior win in their never ending search 4 for mediocrity the junior c clipper squad blew another one on saturday night handing lit tle britain the game on a plate with no less than five power- play goals three in the third period and a 76 win thereby tightening their deathlike grip on the bottom rung of the league roster the clippers were outshot 43- 27 producing some fine saves by netminder steve chip one ofthefew highlights of the game a 20 lead early m the first period came from goals by car- less and rouse with assists from bauer and yeomans be fore little britain tied it up with a pair of unassisted goals good forechecking by car- less in the second period gave him an unassisted second goal while yeomans executed a per fect slapshot on ellis pass to make it 42 however a pair of 7powerpiay goals put the visi tors right back in the game it was bauer who put the clip pers back in the lead in the third period from ellis and tomlin- son with little britain tying it up at the 16 minute mark on the first of three powerplay goals mogford made the clippers final tally from yeomans and purcell but it was not enough with too many players in the box the task was too much even for purcell a fine penalty killer even his abilities were stretch- ed beyond a win coach roberts was also a penalty victim in this one shar ing the clippers 31 minutes in penalties little britain col lected 10 he got his marching orders for harrassing the re feree these guys must be in some sort of union one out all out the clippers face port perry at the arena tonight dec 21 game start is at 8 00 pm uxbridge hand peewees third loss it was inevitable that ux bridge would eventually get the peewee clippers number they did last week with an 82 win that handed the credit union sponsored team their third loss this year this leaves both teams with a win and two ties in home and home series uxbridge went out front early in the second period with a pair of goals before craig stronach from craig mucci and darron baston put stouffville on the board however uxbridge tal lied two more goals prior to danny larmer scoring on mike fergusons pass unlike two previous attempts when stouff ville have come from behind to tie the score this time it was too late still smarting from their pre vious loss to uxbridge the peewee clippers went down 53 to oak ridges last wednesday goals came from larmer stro- buddies both on and off the ice are 8 year old darryl mcmann left who plays center and j year old paul zoffranieri left wing both mem bers of the commercial sand and gravel house leagne novice team both agree that hockey is 1 5mm4 the best game around and are very proud of the fact that their team is number one in their divi sion darryl is one of the leagues most prolific scorers with 78 goals to his credit this season jim holt nach and ferguson with assists to brad tiley kevin blacktopp kirk smythe kevin francis and larmer a win on home ice on friday evening against unionville saw some inspired hockey in the 42 win the fact that several players had returned to the bench after severe bouts of flu no doubt helped in keswick over the weekend the peewee squad ensured themselves a place in the semi final round- to be held on dec 20 when they defeated oshawa bruins 120 and sutton 40 triple hat tricks against oshawa went to kent smythe ferguson and larmer with singles from blacktopp brad tiley and baston kirk smythe collected four assists and aaron mcwilliams mucci and blacktopp two each tonio trentadue baston kevin francis daryl ham and kent smythe also got assists scottie evans and lee armet shared the shutout scottie evans played a great game for the shutout against sutton while baston found time to forgo his checking assign ment against suttons david king to score unassisted in the first period baston did a great job in checking the very talented sutton player ferguson made it 20 in the second on kirk smythes pass strong forchecking by stro nach placed the puck behind the sutton pipes for kent smythe to come from behind to tuck it into the corner of the net while fer guson tallied his second on another nice passing play from kirk smythe and kevin black topp tournament results will be made available next week tyiflciqer mens shop tondonfoo pierre a few leading lights in the re creation field have been in teresting most are convinced that it will never ever happen something i have predicted from the very outset others made of sterner stuff are de termined that the arena will become a reality within the next five years meanwhile organizations like the oldtimer clippers have already begun to amass funds in an arena account with a view to holding further fundraising events here a word of warning to any organization with such plans in the offing is in order do not repeat do not part with one solitary cent until such time as a building starts to appear about ten years ago a simi lar idea was broached and a rather large thermometer was erected at the corner of the westend plaza showing the weekly amount of funds being collected for the new complex despite innumer able enquiries i have never been able to trace what hap pened to the money it cer tainly was never returned to the donors if it was i never got my 5 back anyway back to the com plex having spoken to one of my favorite sources jchair- man john hutchinson of the parks and recreation com mittee he does throw a posi tive light on the complex question in answer to my telephone question will we ever have a new arena john gave me an affirmative reply yes we will have some form of sports complex but i dont know what shape it will take the need is there and the present building has reached the end its life span he observed his big gest dread is that the ice- plant will wither and die in the middle of the season adding to our dilemma is the idea of supporting the construction of a new hospit al along with markham re sidents are expected to shell out five million dollars in donations over a five year period while struggling to pay mortgages keep the old clunker on the road who can afford a new one and give the kids a decent christmas the realities of life certainly elude the proponents of both schemes our esteemed mayor for one he firmly be lieves we can support both projects not with my money he wont an interesting letter from john hutchinson this time in the guise of president of minor hockey appears on this page john takes umbrage at my lead story in last weeks edition heaven only knows why unless he feels terribly insecure and guilty about the question of junior c hockey john obviously feels put upon because a few of us feel that junior hockey in stouffville anyway is a crock however the un fortunate part about his let ter is that he obviously mis sed the whole point of my re marks the question of the junior squad being a bunch of losers is irrelevant the point is prime icetime is being used by players who do not even live in stouffville which raises a further ques tion why cant we get local players to come onto the team there must bea reason nobody wants to play on it whatever he means by his remark is the tribune again trying to promote the same type of friction that took took several years for both our organizations to straighten out i am not sure i most certainly am not aware of any previous in trigue by this paper to cause dissension between sporting organizations perhaps he could beimore specific in nuendo isjsotackyab if as hesayshe is ware of any an attempt to se cure prime icetime by adult hockey enthusiasts then he is obviously completely out of touch with reality i have offered him a copy of the cur rent questionaire being circulated which has been in my posession for two weeks but he obviously doesnt feel the need to read it because it is still sitting on my desk his suggestion viable alternatives to our junior program should it not suc ceed over the next several years fills me with dis may surely he doesnt mean that we are to continue to be inflicted with the current form of saturday night hock ey fare for the forseeable fu ture along with our current problems with york sanita tion thats all we need the gods must be really angry to end on a more seasonal note may i take this oppor tunity of thanking all you people who make my job so worthwhile your kindness consideration and help throughout the year are most appreciated a merry christmas to you all and may your team or organiza tion continue to flourish atoms lose magic touch port perry ended the sound of music atom clippers winning streak with a convincing 71 win on monday night jason under woods lone tally in the second period prevented the shutout wednesday night saw the team travel to keswick for a moral boosting 54 edge over their hosts jeremy hall opened the scor ing rapping in underwoods re bound keswick tied it up only to have the clippers respond with a pair of goals the first by jamie campbell from brad blacktopp and danny mcneil the second from jason under wood on giles francis assist despite a strong keswick attempt to get close keith piet- te from campbell and drae gloverincreased the margin the winning line went on to give campbell the winner midway through the final frame an about face in the silver sticks tournament over the weekend saw the team go down r 52 in the opening round against keswick campbell tallied both goals the second on assists from blacktopp and billy payne against fenlon falls on sun day morning the clippers won a 21 cliffhanger with a nice opening goal by danny mcneil on a neat passing play by campbell and underwood fenlon tied the score but glov er was quick off the mark to slam in lee scaifes rebound for the win a very close game on sunday afternoon saw the clippers edged 54 by sutton despite a 20 lead on goals by lee scaife unassisted and piette from campbell sutton wasted no time in responding with a three goal salvo taking a one goal lead before underwood made it 33 pressing hard sutton again went ahead before payne pop ped in the
