some time in the future jim thomas marg has many friends including one thats special doug smurthwaite also a student in grade 11 lives on the bethesda sideroad north of stouffville sfiaygroup iis a service dear sir on -behalf- of the goodwood playgroup- 1 wish to clarify several points introduced in mr plewes letter published in the april 14 issue of the tribune i firstly let me say that mrs meredith did not state anywhere in her correspondence that she was writing on behalf of our organization although we are grateful for her support as a former member and resident of goodwood second whether or not we charge our members a daily fee is not the issue we have until now been able to cover our own expenses with the money earned through our bazaar however we feel 800 rent over ten months is a lot to ask of a group of preschool children and mothers who use the hall at a time when its not in demand the majority of members live in the community and the children will eventually attend goodwood school together i wish to point out that the 35 cents per mother charge referred to in mr plewes letter would only cover the 66 percent increase in rent and we would still have our overall expenses im sorry the board cant be convinced that the playgroup is a community service i have been a resident in the community eight years and a member of the playgroup for four i feel the organization is indeed a service that will continue for a long time to come sincerely charlotte gayman goodwood playgroup president 198181 refuse to believe weve moved dear editor being a newcomer to goodwood and to the goodwood community playgroup i am hesitant to become involved in the current controversy but after reading the last paragraph of brian plewes letter where he states it appears to us that this is a somewhat local group providing a private service only i feel compelled to reply and to become involved in the controversy even though i had grown up in a small village i had been away from small town life for several years when we decided to move to goodwood i was somewhat apprehensive about leaving the city before we moved in i had been told about playgroup and upon our arrival i was contacted about at tending i suddenly felt a part of goodwood and my apprehensions about returning to a village were dispelled i cer tainly was not- made to feel that i was entering into the realms of a private service the community service of playgroup made me feel welcome and a part of my new community if you dont call playgroup a com munity service i dont know what you would call it it certainly isnt private as i have just pointed out it isnt government run you can check our books in that regard it is a group offering a service a service that i was notified about and encouraged to be a part of i would call that a community service i for one am glad goodwood has this service for the benefit of myself and my children sincerely ellen martyn goodwood magic is fun jdearteditor buses need radios dear jim its understandable that some citizens are concerned about the influence that in volvement in occult practices might have on hand tricks and surely no one should find a relationship between the two very different activities to imply that stouffyilles greatest wdoustesponsibilityto could aid this cause by et i agree with you one be without of demanding the should be able to use any of the latcham halls as a substitute for a church building for an indefinite period k i f sincerely cm on hold stouffville plans for a dominion store in a proposed shopping plaza here are currently on hold sheldon sugden spokesman for the centre- at main- west and palmwood gate told planning board last week that while the application had been made conditional on a commitment from dominion to locate there this would not occur immediately- i- they dominion wish to be put on hold he said 1 sugden pointed to obvious reasonspthe state of the economy and high interest rates dominion stores he explained are still interested but the situation isnt the same today as six months ago he said however the board gave its approval to the project subject to a review of parking in front of the centre and the positioning of lights at- entrances from both couple honored wayne feasby and nancy ault were honored at a fellowship hour sunday evening following the
