advantage of it fur ther i feel shes representative of the majority of young people in our area sincerely agnes hill stouffville thanks to story new lease on life dear jim learning the academic ac complishments of shirley middleton rowe of goodwood has made my week i have long considered returning to high school but was really afraid id make a fool of myself among kids half my age like so many teens back in the 50s i quit school without receiving the necessary credits that would lead to a decent job i thought i had it made with a husband a couple of kids a dog and a cat how things can change now when i need to work i lack the qualifications to do the work i want shirleys experience and your story have given me new hope nothings impossible this september i too am going back to school im not sure where but somewhere if shirley can do it so can i at least i intend to try thanks jim and shirley for giving me a new lease on life sincerely susan oliver uxbridge rr 2 dear mr thomas after reading- the story on shirley mid dleton rowe and her decision after more than 20 years to return to school i felt 1 knew her personally it was that kind of write-up- very personal also her deter- miration to i upgrade her education touched a nerve with many of us im sure- 1 know it- did me its something ive been thinking about for quite awhile its people like shirley who give new meaning to the adage fyoure never too old to learn shes to be congratulated and others too who follow her lead come sep- tember i hope im one sincerely shirley kremer rrs uxbridge- er showed courage dear mr thomas please dont print my name id die if others found out anyway you know me well im writing about mrs rowe the lady from goodwood whos at our school if she thinks were super the compliment is returned tenfold we think shes super too having a mother as a student here gives stouffville high a new- image narrows the generation gap if you know what i mean mrs rowe while older than the rest of us is really no different its her attitude that counts she thinks young me and my friends feel very much at ease in her presence and im glad she feels the same ill feel honored to share the graduation platform with her next novem ber ps no boy ever whistles at me in the hall sincerely student at sdss was annoyed story dear mr thomas i read with some annoyance your article committee sacks vocal members which appeared in the march 1082 issue fran sutton the official spokesperson for the concerned citizens committee and a relative newcomer to the area may not be aware of it but the contribution of the sacked persons and in particular fran sainsbury toward the cause to which mrs sutton so vocally in volves herself goes back a long way from the days of the powr preserve our water resources in the midseventies mrs sainsbury gave selflessly of her time to the detriment of her own career and family life i am very surprised that you mr thomas knowing as you do of the past efforts of these individuals would print such drivel the citizens of whitchurch stouffville of which i am no longer one owe kran sains bury and elaine fritz a tremendous debt of gratitude db chant rr1 goodwood dear mr thomas may i respond to the council comments by jim sanders entitled plebiscite appearing in the tribune on march 10 1982 i wish first of all to thank mr sanders for his courage and clarity in pointing out the folly and universal threat to humanity of the nuclear arms race his ad vocacy of nuclear disarmament is a refreshingly sane position in a world gone insane with the desire for proliferation of arms and nuclear weaponry personally i am in total agreement with the many people in our world who are begin ning to understand with increasing clarity that peace is very rarely if ever achieved by frantic and almost uncontrolled pre paration for war also the totally in credible and in comprehensible a- mountsof mony spent on armaments at the expense of national and international programs to alleviate poverty and promote justice must surely be one of the most immoral acts of our time every day we teeter on the brink of an nihilation through nuclear holocaust but too many of us are doing little ornothing about it partly because we tend to think there is nothing we can do mr sanders has made a constructive suggestion when he favors having the issue placed on the ballot at the next municipal election perhaps such a move small though it may be in the context of the problem could be the first ripple in a mighty wave of demands for the control and reduction of arms may i write one more thingit seems to me the churches should be in the vanguard of those who promote peace and world disarmament to stand in silence as we too often do in a world obsessed with creating the tools with the potential for the annihilation of all mankind is a sign of consent a sign we are in favor of mass murder 1 on an unprecedented scale to verbalize with fervor the love and peace of the gospel but at the same time give our passive consent to the production of ar maments designed solely to kill people with unprecedented ef ficiency must surely be one of the greatest in consistencies of the christian church i count it a privilege to support mr sanders proposal and to go on record as being unequivocally in favor of nuclear disar mament sincerely jm nighswander rr3
