was a foot stompin success with 13 entries the show lasted about two hours and featured some very entertaining country and western music for the audience of around 100 the en trants ranged from small children to senior citizens and came from as far away as missfcsauga the contest was divided into two categories vocal and instrumental the first prize winner of 100 in the vocal category was rose mcdougall of west hill coming in second and receiving iso was marlene mckinjey of toronto and in third was julia wallace of bauantrae winning 25 the lone entrant in the instrumental category was bill wallace of stouffville who played a piece on the piano the winners will also get to appear before the good brothers at the country and western show held on oct 2 at the markham fair other entrants included lisa thompson of markham jim cadieux of stouffville lynn benson of claremont bernice donovan of mississauga bonnie and norman donovan of mississauga audra clough of markham bill yake of richmond hill and looi wallace of stouffville judges for the contest were marty coomber erny holbling marion snowball and conrad kipping the show was put together by the special attractions and events committee of the markham fair james kenneth cowan ran store mongolia a well known resident and merchant of mongolia james kenneth cowan died saturday night at the age of 85 jim as he was known to everyone in the area had run the mongolia general store for 50 years after coming there from browns corners the store burned down several years ago mr cowan was born in pickering township surviving
