dog protects home dear sir i recently read in the tribune the story of henry and lola walsh of badantrae i feel the true facts arent being faced i know from ex perience that a german shepherd makes a wonderful guard dog i have one i previous to obtaining him my bouse was en tered on several oc casions while i was out shopping or away for the weekend i lost a great amount of valuable furniture and other ar ticles that cannot be v replaced since i acquired the dog no burglar has dared enter my home if a dog is well trained it will not attack small children however it will often bark fiercely enough to frighten them especially if the children have not been trained to handle them my neigh bors children put their hands down so the dog can smell them once they recognize the scent they understand they are friendly and will not attack i do not agree however that a couple needs to have four dogs one or at the most two should be sufficient but i do agree with mr walsh that if another dog comes onto his property it is only natural for the owners animal to attack it perhaps the humane society should be asked to investigate the situation rather than taking the problem to legal authorities their at titude is not as most people believe totally on the side of the animals but im sure they could assess the situation and come to some agreement regarding the situation i write this letter for two reasons first because i am ex perienced with dogs and second because i feel elderly people living alone need an animal for protection my sympathies rest with mr and mrs walsh i hope the people who want the dogs destroyed will change their minds when they realize and understand the needs of others margaret robinson rr 3 mt albert two dogs enough dear mr thomas i agree with you 100 per cent four dogs per household are two too many two dogs is the most any family needs and sometimes they can also be a nuisance th e sooner legislation is passed to this effect the better for everyone regardless of what people may say two dogs are easier controlled than four this is one of the worst problems we have today ask any sheep farmer stan phillips rr2 stouffville the tribune january 31 17
