darcy mckeough says a l tome pickering- the north pickering project will be built but it will not cost the region of durham ontario treasurer darcy mckeough told regional council last week councillor jack anderson pickering however was not reassured he mckeough had his head in the sand helod the tribune mr anderson said that until the provincial government has come up with a large single factory or other industrial in centives that pickering should oppose the project while no guarantees of incentives were given mr mckeough did say that north pickering would pay for its own servicing he also added that the north pickering development cor poration has a great deal of tools at its disposal to attract in- dustry mr anderson feels that the project should probably be built in stages with industry guaranteed for each part before building other- province worth pay for durham services wise he fearsa rise in the tax rate for the municipality mr mckeough also told regional council the province has no im mediate intention of reviving the pickering airport and that to make north pickering self- sustaining other industry would have to be at- traded in the area regarding a plebiscite on the airport being introduced by oshawa councillor john dellart mr mckeough said the province wasnt prepared to govern on the basis of plebiscites mayor heads regional study uxbridge mayor carl puterbough will head up a regional committee that will investigate bill 162 which established the regional municipality of durham the ad hoc committee is to look at all aspects of bill 162 the mayor told the tribune water and sewer rates remain the biggest problem he added and under bill 162 it cant be solved another problem is the provision under the bill which says that council acts as a recreation committee for the municipality it isnt physically possible said the mayor weve organized another way and its illegal the committee will bring re commendations to council following separate
