lettersib the editor the tribune thursday july 10 ims 5 is a giant rgaine dear sir i would like to 12 comment on your editorial and general coverage concerning the socalled estate residential subdivision x vivian rd west of the 9th cone this could zi probably be classed as an open letter both to you and the speculators who coy the way are gen- uemen who live in the iarea and whom i know tcpersonally they are not bigcity investors and yet for some reason this subject has never been mentioned even though i see them frequently this may be good business ethics in their opinion but certainly it is one rotten job of public relations however there are tcertain things in life for hich some people are willing to fight one ifseems to be money and another seems to be their jprivacy and way of life in a rural area which will in no way be enhanced by 27 chouses call this selfish or whatever connotation 7you wish to give it but rje greed of the speculators is also most obvious and should be curbed to some extent if at all possible c we realize only too well that the small lots already in existence in gthis area if multiplied certainly will ruin the crural atmosphere- but the existing small lots are here because there was a subdividing carried out some years ago by a jblever lawyer and a sleepy council while the yest of us sat on our rumps and said it could never happen until we saw the first excavation this time many of us intend to apply as much jgpressure as possible to show our objection to a highdensity subdivision- with all its problems right on our doorstep believe rmci a stand of trees doesnt make any dif ference nor does the topography of the land but as usual in this modern world we are caught in the squeeze of the almighty dollar which seems to be- up- ypermbst in the minds of thecouncil with their jteyes on lucrative tax doliars and in the minds of the- speculators who wish to squeeze the tmaximum amount of money from their land x only time will tell the outcome especially if l some of the names on the petition collected by mr grose are merely waiting to jump on the money wagon to make a fast buck themselves surely there are still some things that should matter more than money certainly there are still some things in life that cant be bought perhaps chairman expresses gratitude dear sir through your newspaper i would like to express thanks to crest hardware k j beamish const com mercial sand gravel regan co ltd standard ind a p food stores uxbridgetwp couple club highland creek sand gravel stouff ville iga stouffville co op bernice harper mildred harper and patty webb for their generous contribution to the goodwood fair lornetyndali chairman goodwood fair we expect to get services for our taxes dear sir there are two items in the july 3 1975 issue of the tribune which require comment one is the front page article stating a public school supporters taxes in the former township of whitchurch will increase 9150 based on an assessment of 20000 the second item is youreditprial proposing women as volunteers in a fire brigade in ballan- trae n i am a public school supporter living on a half- acre lot in theballantrae subdivision our assessment is not 20000 but 29000 i ex pect our 1975 taxes to be over 750 we do not have if mor of society realized this iftings would be in better shape today we need time and space not always squandered to stop and smell the roses as the song says i am sure that you as a good christian gen- tleman and the groses as good christian gen- tiemen would agree or would the agreement come only on sunday and be forgotten the other sue days i hope not perhaps the speculators will see their way clear to be content with a little less and so will we i myself would voice no objection whatsoever to five or 10- acre lots but sad to say i have learned that life so often seems to be a giant poker game the players are many and varied and the best man doesnt always win beverley j herold abacres sewers we are not on any municipal water supply we do not have hydrants or sidewalks our children cannot walk to the library swimming pool or any other facilities available to residents of the village of stouffville we do have paved roads and street lights both were installed by the developer and the cost was reflected in the price we paid for our home i have been notified by one insurance com pany that they would not insure our home for fire as we are more than five miles from a responding are hall the point- 1 make is this when the second phase of the felray subdivision is finished there will be over 110 homes paying an average of 700 taxes each per year you suggest our wives and ourselves form a volunteer fire depart ment to my way of thinking 700 is not country taxes but city taxes and i for one expect some citytype services for my tax dollar the onus is on the council to provide adequate fire protection not the taxpayers i urge everyone outside of stouffville to stop and think what are they receiving for their tax dollar if you feel you are not getting a fair deal then appcaryour assessment band together now to work for a wholesale change of our council- forr the 197778 term what better way to celebrate stouffvilles centennial i william h morrison felcher drive ballantrac reader wants creativity humor dear sir concerning the editorial column of july 3 etc being a stouffville resident for some 20 years or more i have naturally subscribed to our local paper on a weekly basis i have enjoyed many articles that have appeared on the pages of our local means of mass communication however 1 am completely disenchanted with the graphic description of the singular family situation which appears to be your current biggy we all have our own individual family problems to contend with and i am sure that most of your subscribers would agree that the article in question is totally boring and absolutely un necessary for twenty cents i do not expect the works of jack london or ernest hemingway but surely a little more creativity to perk the imagination and humor of your reader is not beyond the realm of possibility donna lewis stouffville 1973 pontiac
