late charles conner second markham church loses valuable member markham twp mr charles conner rri unionville passed away sept 6 in the york county hospital newmarket at the age of 77 years mr conner was born at gor- mley dec 15 1892 son of james conner and mary ann sheffer he had been in declining health for several years in may 1915 mr conner enlisted with the 19th battery of the royal canadian artillery and served overseas for four years returning home may 1919 later that spring he took up farming on the 6th cone of markham twp and in may 1921 married cora wideman of richmond hill they have 5 children eleanor mrs wm simpson rr3 stouff vilie doris mrs howard burton of rr2 claremont neil rrl unionville marjorie mrs murray johnston of rrl moorefield and marion mrs paul myers rr3 claremont there are 16 grandchildren and l great grandchild the funeral was held at second markham baptist church where he had been a member for 45 years his pastor rev d gibson preached the sermon with rev norman rowan and dr ws whitcombe former pastors assisting mr conner shortly before his death requested that his favorite hymngod leads his dear children along be sung at his funeral by mrs neil conner and mrs dave ratcliff the pall bearers were walter yusko charles ratcliff morris eby clarence powell fred yake and allan wideman floral tributes banked the bier and 60 gideon bibles were dedicated to his memory further attesting to the high esteem in which mr conner was held the grief stricken wife and members of the family have the sincere sympathy of the community and church in their great loss
