lancashire another season of farm machinery shows is al most upon us while can adas winters put an end to many farming activities it gives the countrys farmers time to think about and pick out the new machin ery they need for the com ing crop year of the three major farm shows the biggest is stul the canada farm indus trial equipment show to be held this year from jan 28 to 31 in torontos ex hibition park farmers and farm equipment deal ers are in for a treat be cause the show is oversold on space bookings and will be the biggest in its his tory the toronto show has become the biggest indoor event devoted exclusively to farm and industrial ma chinery in the world now an annual event on the eastern farmer and deal ers calender the show has doubled its size more than 12 times in the last 10 years the 1970 show program is full of features to inter est dealers and farmers one of the big highlights will be the international hall founded three years ago exhibitor space is com pletely sold out in this sec tion and boosts machinery from britain ussr west germany denmark sweden and norway the british exhibits are part of a big push by the country for increased exports and the exhibitors are being sponsored by the british government the manitoba govern ment is also bringing pro vincial shortliners to the show for the first time the special red carpet seen for the first time at the last show is being ex tended to join up the five main halls a sixth hall the upper cast annex will again be filled by the on tario soil crop improve ment association for its annual convention the association will be using two meeting rooms and each can hold 500 people a meeting in uxbridge jan 6 the program will include a safety poster competition that brought in 440 entries last year the of meeting the newest feature of the show will be in the west annex which was opened up in the 1969 show for lawn and garden recreational equipment the hall is now fully sold and the main highlight is a miniature ninehole golf course being laid primarily to stimulate thoughts of summer and create in terest in lawn and garden equipment and which will be surrounded by lawn and garden exhibitors this section should partic ularly appeal to people in volved in golf course and municipal maintenance work and is another idea from show manager len sykes mr sykes stated sales from our point of view have never been greater as early prior to the show and never have advance exhibitor payments come in so early without reluct ance which seems to indi cate they either have money or are getting it to save missing the show the show is definitely a must of most ontario farmers calendars farm ers do come here to buy they get more attention at the stands get a better price on equipment they buy and after theyve bought new equipment for the coming year start making selections for the although results from the royal winter fair are now history the memory will not soon be forgotten by frank hendy left of rri claremont and stan feasby rr1 goodwood the two men won the world rye championship and are shown here receiving the parrish and heimbecker trophy from h c heimbecker president canada pictures next year mr sykes added no body argues that the can ada farm show is a suc cess but what i like to point out is that this show is an industry show sup ported solely by the indus try for the benefit of far mers and dealers we are completely independent and receive no monetary assistance from govern ment or anyone else the success of the event is due to the persistance of the industry to have a good show
