had been talk ing about it for weeks max schmeling was the only man who had knock ed out joe louis in his en tire professional career and now they were to meet again george todd went out and bought an electric radio so the whole family could listen to the big fight the old set had only two pairs of earphones and that just wasnt enough to go around it was the first electric radio in goodwood one of those floor models with short wave and everything a real beauty he invited his friends and neighbours to come on down and lis ten george and liz spent the afternoon figuring out how they could set it up on the front verandah it was so hot and there were all kinds of people coming jack reid arrived so did howard harper and andy morgason mr and mrs will henderson came over georges brother bill came down and there were lots of others they turned on the radio and it was great you could hear it all over the street the fight started and after all the fuss joe louis had to go and knock out schmeling early in the first round the biggest sports event in goodwood last week was the game between st johns training school and the goodwood inter mediates on wednesday july 23 it was anybodys game right up
