every thing and taking care o a post office that serves a vil lage he is entitled to a res so charles watson owner of watsons store for nearly half a century is going to do just that it was december i 1923 when charles watson de cided to go into the store- keeping business because 1 thought i might like it the store he had purchas ed was actually two busi nesses in one in the front the essential goods were sold while behind a parti tion in the rear was a youngsters delight an ice cream parlour since he first bought the building many alterations have been made in 1933 the post office became part of the surroundings and since its opening time off was pretty hard to enjoy mr watson recalled good wood as a hive of activitiy in the earlier years when farmers brought their goods to the railroad depot train travel was the on ly practical transportation he said and wagons were lired up from the station to the road food prices he remem bered were much lower than they are today bread sold for about nine or ten cents a loaf and other goods were similarly priced today food prices are higher than they have ever been mr watson stated its simple today a storekeepers job years ago was more difficult than it is today everything is packaged now and to get a total you just turn to the adding machine there is not as much credit today as there was in the thirties as the times changed stores throughout the coun try were keeping up with them supermarkets and chain stores flourished while the oneman operation died out the watson establish ment felt the change people went to the shopping centres purchasing odds and ends for most of their needs and used the smaller stores for there were some people however who did remain faithful to the little shop one such customer mrs t maye has entered the watson store practically every week for the last for ty years attached to the store is the home of mr and mrs watson it was included in the sale when the trans action was completed al though the watsons are still living there the couple will stay and help the new owners mr and mrs llli cooper since a postmaster must le appointed by au thorities in ottawa mr watson cannot leave until this move is made at pres ent the coopers can only act as helpers in the postal department until official word is received the watsons are hoping to find residence somewhere in the stouffvillelvbiidge area there was a time about fifteen or twenty years ago when mr watson knew just about everyone between goodwood and stouffville now he knows about half of them times have really changed he said leaving the store will be about tiie biggest change time has made in the life of charles watson tsightseeing quiz trite gjatiint jcii this icsitvr vatckuuv in jtuc wocl extew foc 199 design the new school will be the first in the province to bear the name of ontarios educa tion minister william g davis the trustees felt that a school designed to meet the most modern techniques in teaching and to have such builtin flexibility as this one has to meet new teach ing demands of the future should bear the name of the man most responsible for the tremendous advance in educational programs and facilities in the province the minister mr davis said kenneth d munroe the school boards superinten dent another interesting facet of the new school is that its first principal is to be
