sun day morning when news was received of the passing of ern est hunt who had entered the york county hospital in new market only on wednesday of last week he was stricken with a heart attack born at gormley the late mr hunt had lived all his life in the area with the exception of about four years spent in the west he became wellknown in both the townships of mark- ham and whitchurch when he operated a threshing unit from farm to farm this kind of work covered a period of more than 30 years he used steam power for a time and later operated a rumley oilpull in recent years he worked out of his own machine shop and was an expert on mower sharpening and repairs he was 76 mr hunt was a member of the gormley united missionary church where he held the of fice of treasurer at one time and of the municipality it was said that the late j archie fle ming knew every resident on his role by name no one is likely to dispute this claim since archie fleming was that kind of man the dixon chapel at mark ham was filled on friday after noon for the funeral service conducted by rev geo davi son of melville united church among those present were many of his longtime friends whom he had come to know du ring his years of township ser vice mr fleming passed away on tuesday nov 16th in the scarboro general hospital fol lowing a confinement of three weeks he was stricken with a heart attack but seemed to be on the road to recovery prior to his death he was 70 mr fleming was born at browns corners r scarboro the son of the late john flem ing and flora elliot he took the markham assessment post in 1945 and rose as a parttime employee to assessment com missioner with a staff of five he retired in 1960 but retained the position of justice of the peace when required he also served as an acting magistrate a resident in unionville for the past 20 years he took an ac tive interest in the horticultur al society and was a member of the unionville curling club he was also a member of the masonic order besides his wife the former jean burrows he is survived by one son allison of unionville one daughter isobcl mrs john nigh markham r r 2 and one sister mrs roy morgan of claremont there are five grandchildren beth beverley and brenda fleming and jon and susan nigh pall bearers at the funeral included harvey cox robt hood everett harper robt thomson arthur burrows and
