urge tighter controls on sales of gravel land in uxbridge twp goodwood many farms in uxbridge town ship arc veritable gold mines of gravel and with no zoning bylaw in effect the development of this industry continues on with few- restrictions owners of gravel lands interested in lining their pockets aie opposed to any ruling that could affect the future sale of their properties others not concerned with real estate fear that the township may soon become one giant hole in the ground unless some kind of control is imposed caught in the middle of the to factions arc both the council and planning board some rather pointed questions on the problem were posed at a nomination meeting in goodwood on wednesday night estimate 30 uxbridge township in ten acre bldg lots fcrmmallj- oppnmil between 25 and 30 percent of the municipality was nov divided into ten acre building lots mr nesbitt wa returned to office hy acclamation with reference to ten acre land parcels the deputyreeve said that the township was powerless to do anything about it until the planning board is allowed to control such proper ty separations at 500 to 7ik an acre as compared with land in toronto its a steal he said there is only one industry in uxbridge and thats farming continued mr nesbitt every time a farm is divided we loe an industry we welcome thee purchasers i just hope we all can still afford to live here and help thes people pay for the lots theyve bought the deputyreeve said that it was rather strange thai the townships population should drop by 40 persons but the school attendance had increased by bo with reference to schools mr nesbitt said that the board could not be blamed for rising education costs they must provide the necessary student accommodation he said he predicted that the day would soon come when parents would demand bus transportation for every pupil in the school area township left commented still another code of ethics mr nesbitt explained that the gravel pit industry is gov erned by a verbal code of ethics that calls for all top soil to be retained on the property and for the excavation to be filled in and level led off when the pit is worked out thats fine noted mr ken nedy but it only takes one bad angry but well all he angry if the township goes to pieces he continued its for the general good mr kennedy suggested that a neutral body should be set up to complete a survey of the township which would represent a basis for a zoning bylaw it would cost a few thousand dol lars but if something isnt done there soon will be nothing left to zone area 1
