gene ral hospital margaret miller 4h award winnei brougham margaret miller daughter of mr and mrs robert miller of broug ham has been selected as one of the seven 4h homemaking delegate from ontario to at tend the national 4h club conference held in ottawa and toronto november 1117 margaret has been interested in s variety of activities one of which included a trip to quebec as an exchange student she has completed ten 4h homemaking projects and is hoping to obtain provincial honours in the near future margaret is very talented in tinging and takes a leading role in the high school glee club the church choir and in the ontario county junior farmer choir some of margarets hob bies include skating swimming school sports cooking and sew ing at the completion of grade xiii this year margaret i hopes to take home economics at macdonald institute uni versity of guelph the conference sponsored by the canadian council on 4h clubs begins in ottawa where margaret and the other dele gates will be received by their excellencies governor general and madame vanier the tor onto tour will include a hockey game at maple leaf gardens the royal winter fair the okeefe falls centre and niagara four teachers rent skyloff ski lodge glen major the scenic skyloft ski resort near here in uxbridge township is back in operation again and earlier this season the winter ski centre has been rented by four port perry teachers they mov ed into their new quarters on saturday mr and mrs ralph faulkner visited miss annetta oarpentier near montreal last week mr and mrs alec hingston and family toronto spent the weekend with mr j a hings ton mr george pickett is doing nicely but is still in hospital mr and mrs jim jones spent a weekend recently in sudbury with mr and mrs paul baster mr herbert simonds of tor onto spent the weekend at braeside f mr and mrs d jackson oshawa visited one evening last week with mr and mrs george johnson husband wife visit namesake scottish town atha canadian plow champion donald dunkeld and mrs dunkeld have returned home following an extended trip through denmark norway england ireland and scotland they spent two days in the town of dunkeld scotland hut were unable to trace any dun keld families there they did however locate three families in glasgow which they hope to get in touch with mr frank wagg stouffville had supper sunday evening allround girl she re ceived the anne stratton memo rial trophy linda was also the recipient of the music prize an award donated by dr and mrs f s hertzberg another local girl also received special recog nition nancy burton was pre sented with her graduation di ploma in the commercial course and the trophy for the most out standing shorthand writer in the school we offer our con gratulations to both these girls the ucw met last wednes day in the church basement with an armistice day worship service each member donated a number for the programme it was decided to send clothing to the fred greenwood students capture many awards on graduation night greenwood the com munity of greenwood was well represented among the award winners of the 14th annual commencement exercises held friday competition on thursday november 11th at the uxbridge secondary school the topic for the debate was resolved that farm credit is too readily available to ontario farmers the top four debaters this year as selected by the judges were june and kathy parlia ment of cannington neil mc- lcod and bob barlow of black- water the public speaking competi tion was won by barbara holt- by of port perry barbara re ceives the whitby rotary club trophy for this achievement the judges for the eompcti- occasion when a mother and daughter are able to celebrate birthdays on the same day but this is what occurred on satur day evening nov 13th when mrs peter white and her moth er mrs cecil redman enter tained a few close friends at a joint birthday party at mrs redmans home along with mr white and mr cresswell presided at the opening of the annual bazaar and tea of the ucw held recently in the basement of the united church eye catching bouquets of milkweed queen annes lace cattails and other wild flowers were used as decoration the flowers picked along the roadsides and in the fields around claremont were beautifully tinted and painted by mrs wendy tompkins and were a pleasing departure from the usual flowers used for dec orative purposes in charge of the various tables were mrs ross middleton aprons mrs wendy tompkins miscellane ous articles mrs earl cook homecooking and baking mrs jack hill vegetables and pro duce and mrs roy ward candy mrs watson took care of the fishpond members of the social committee who looked after the tea tables were mrs william wallace mrs wilmot hill mrs jim curtis mrs tom hammond mrs mait anderson and mrs norris hardy the proceeds of the bazaar are not yet complete but all concerned with this pleasing event say that it was one of the most enjoyable friday november 19th at 1000 am county judging team second at royal cons authority seeks loans for flood control the metropolitan toronto and region conservation authority will request that longterm loans be made available by the province to conservation author ities for the financing of large flood control and water conser vation programs this is one of 20 recommenda tions proposed by the mtrca in its brief to the ontario legis latures select committee on conservation authorities the brief prepared by a spe cial committee of members of the mtrca under the chair manship of mrs j a gardner was
