ontario municipal board hearing here last week refused to alter the assessment on an uxbridge twp property but still waived the cost of the court due to the sincerity of the appeal kendal and isabella home no 47 hwy northeast of goodwood contested the assess ment figures as applied against 25 acres of land and buildings and an additional 3 acre gravel pit previous appeals before the local court of revision and a county judge had been sustain ed the 25 acres of land and buildings was assessed for si 925 the 3 acre gravel pit was assesed for s2400 attending the hearing was the chairman a d mccrae vice chairman r m mcguire cty assessor gordon hepditch and clerk ehvood foskett slake comparison since mr home was not sup ported by a solicitor the chair man allowed hime every oppor tunity to speak on his own be half he argued that the assess ment on his land was higher than on adjoining properties and named the farm of arthur parratt as a comparison the assessors records showed how ever that the home propevty carried a lower value rating than the parratt premises mr binsted stated further that the home house was assessed loss than the going rate because it had been built on a piece meal fashion with respect to the gravel pit mr home argued that he only worked out 1 acre per year and should therefore be assessed on ly for the one acre of gravel he admitted that the value of the property was worth possilbly one million dollars to him i dont think you wish to sell commented chairman mccrae system not penect county assessment commis sioner hepditch said that in general five acres is used as a basis for assesments on gravel pit lands he pointed out that in the home case this figure had been reduced to 3 acres mr mccrae admitted that the system of assessment with re gard
