hospital appointed official guardian for the many british children sheltered in canada during world war ii mr heise was made an officer of the order of the british empire and award ed the george v jubilee medal and the george vi coronation medal once a field worker with the buffalo childrens aid society and for four years director of the society in hamilton mr heise spent nine year with the welfare department as superin tendent of the childrens aid branch before taking the depu tys post in 1944 among his other interests was the provision of adequate housing for the elderly he contended that the elderly nee ded a sense of belonging and when the department unveiled plans for future institutions for the aged 16 years ago he ar gued that they should be per mitted to feel independent mr heise was chairman of the united churchs commis sion on the urban frontier a group set up to study the churchs relations with persons living in urban areas and was secretary of the churchs com- i mittee of employed church men the latter group is study ing way in which laymen might become engaged in full- i time church work he was born in stouffville and graduated in 1925 from the university of toronto school of social work he leaves his wife violet franceses and two daughters mrs allan mcguire and mrs derek morley both of toronto also a sister enna mr heise was a son of the late ja cob heis
