fifteen year old ringwood boy remains partially paralyz ed in the intensive care ward of the scarboro general hospital following a car accident last week at the intersection of no 47 hwy and cone 2 uxbridge twp tom phillips son of mr and mrs ken phillips was a passenger in a southbound auto that went out of control and skidded down a twelve foot ravine two other occupants of the vehicle rick mckcnney of ringwood and larry foote of stouffville were less seriously injured it is believed that all three were thrown out of the car the lads were returning from a brief fishing trip near udora told to wait harry heatherington glad park ave stouffville was the first to arrive at the scene he said that he noticed auto tire marks leading off the gravel road and decided to check and see if anything was wrong he said he found all three boys in a dazed condition and realized that one was seriously injured he asked that both the police and an ambulance should be cal led mr heatherington said that the victims were required to wait an hour on the ambulance based in the town of uxbridge it was later learned that the phillips youth had suffered a fractured spine and other un determined injuries chief laverne ellenbcrger of uxbridge police said that the ambulance call was received in his office from a private citizen at 738 pm four minutes later an officer was in touch with the ontario provincial police de tachment at whitby and learn ed that a cruiser had already been dispatched to the accident scene uxbridge police were told to hold the ambulance back un til otherwise instructed by the investigating officer at 814 pm the opp reported that the call was an emergency and seven minutes later the vehicle had arrived wildgoose chase chief ellenberger said that although the ambulance operat ed by the uxbridge police was at the scene only 43 minutes after the initial call was re ceived he admitted that it could have arrived much sooner if so ordered he said that in respect to highway accidents the policy had been to dispatch the ambulance only on the au thority of some official person such as a doctor a police officer or an attendant at the hospital or medical centre too often we break our necks to get there and the trip ends up in a wild goose chase he said he noted that in respect to last weeks call the initial information did not give a proper location the chief said that a com mittee had tried to reach an agreement with the councils of municipalities served by the ambulance to pay a set fee on a per capita basis but with the exception of uxbridge twp the proposal had been rejected he said that he hoped negotia tions could be reopened very soon the tribune received several complaints from persons at the scene and chief ellenberger said that others had come to his attention the chief said that it was regrettable that a similar delay had also occurred only a few days before in a two- car collision at coppins cor- neds where six people were hurt he said that conditions in both cases were very similar dynamite caps stolen from construction site whitchurch twp police dept are investigating the theft of four boxes of electric dynamite caps from a well- digging construction site on the 3rd concession two other boxes of dyna mite sticks were recovered by police in a nearby field the explosives were the property of mr stanley moore operator of the on tario well digging co gormlcy chief fret mason does not attribute the theft to the work of children but believes that the caps were taken with other motives in mind the containers at summitview the annual presentation of both athletic and academic awards to pupils of summit- view public school was held on tuesday evening in the audito rium of stouffville dist high school the program similar to that held by orchard park school on thursday was well attended allan bacon a grade 7 pupil was the lone recipient of a school letter for accumulated points in academic athletic and attendance proficiency other individual prizes went to bob boake mathematics trudy cadieux english and derek gresham geography pupils who obtained an aver age of 80 per cent or higher were also the secretary appear ed before whitchurch township council on monday night with a number of requests ranging from street lighting to parking the deputation questioned the council as to what action was being taken regarding the dance hall license for the sunny val ley establishment on the south side of the lake reeve frank wjlliams stated the police de partment was handling this ap plication and one would be is sued provided conditions war ranted mr lee suggested to council that this particular dance pavilion should be requir ed to provide some police pro tection at the owners expense parking there have been complaints regarding the parking congest ion particularly on sundays and the ratepayer representat ives suggested that a special constable be placed on duty for the lake area on the weekends deputyreeve farquharson said that the request that the road be kept clear was quite justi fied particularly in case of fire or ambulance service being re quired traffic is also being impeded by persons launching boats at a site on the shore in an area where the property owner is unknown the visitors said that as many as forty boats were out on the lake sunday making it dangerous for those court injunction halts picketing at amalco an ontario supreme court injunction handed down by chief justice grant on tuesday has resulted in at least a tempo rary halt to picketing at the new amalgamated electric cor poration plant in markham village the order is good until friday june 26th after which time further negotiations may be resumed the cout decision came at a time when feelings tenders for the removal of the anglican church building from the lot on main st only one bid was re ceived being for 500 from cla rence bunker of goodwood council accepted the tender for the purchase materials th auctioneer is lloyd wilson the school has remained closed and unused since a new 2room structure was erected in 1963 the purchaser is required to move the building from the lot by oct 1st 1964 5ih line uxbridge to honour teacher on thursday evening to night the trustees and commu nity residents of fifth line uxbridge will honour mrs marye sheehey a teacher and principal in the section for a period of 20 years she plans to retire at the conclusion of the june term mrs sheehey was the lone teacher in the old building located on the east side of the brock road when the new school was
