schoolhouse on commend rec committee for 1963 accomplishments the markham township rec reation and parks committee was commended by council on monday night for a job well done in 1963 this was the first year of operation and a most comprehensive report was pre sented before council by form er councillor allen sumner chairman of the committee of particular note was the fact that the committee had kept expenditures within the budget set namely s850 for re creation cd s12900 for parks mr sumner reported that three openair rinks had been opened and two more were underway some grading had been done and baseball backstops erected his report stated that trees had been planted in four parks and other work of a permanent na ture completed the committee was recom mending tvo new park sites be obtained in 1964 in the south east corner of the township each containing a minimum of 3 acres the committee also recommended purchase of a tractor loader and mower and the engaging of a part time maintenance man mr sumner said it would be of great assis tance if the committee could be consulted when any future land was offered by subdividers the committee reported some consideration was being given to a centennial project but no thing concrete had been agreed upon deputyreeve rumble said he had heard the suggestion re garding two committees one for parks and one for recreation and asked the committees re action mr sumner said such a move would only open an area for conflict and he definitely believed any such move would be bad save now markham chrysler dodge weekend specials blood donors at markham set record feb 17th the sunday school skating party is planned for saturday afternoon if the weatherman obliges edna chatterley many thanks to the donors who made the red cross blood donors clinic held in the vet erans hall markham on jan uary 20th such a success two hundred and eighteen 218 bottles were collected and we were sorry to have to reject an other twelve whose blood after testing for their own sake we were unable to accept how- eer we trust their blood will be built up in tune for the july clinic we feel certain that all of those who donated are plea sed that they had a share m making this the largest collec tion ever for our district thanks again for the gener osity of the m dva and the womens auxiliary for the use of their hall and facilities to the ladies who supplied the re freshments to the other friends who helped with registrations marking donors cards calling up the donors and last but not least to the men who unloaded and at the close of the clinic reloaded the mobile unit in less than fifteen minutes appreciation also to all those who gave us publicity to make our clinic so successful and we were gratified to register 75 new donors
