to the chair and george 11 dcilur appointed secretary the chairman after making a few re- marks slated that lie trusted there would be no un pleasant remarks or censures made upon the con duct of our absent representatives but that the meeting if not adjourned would be conlined strict ly to the object stated in ihe requisition which was to nominate candidates for the ensuing general election to represent us in the provincial parlia ment john s cartwright esq then addressed the meeting and moved seconded hy win madden that this meeting be adjourned to the ueual place of holding the general elections for the counties to be held on the second saturday in april at 11 oclock a m which was carried after which daniel prin gle moved seconded by lewis fralick that said adjournment be held this day two weeks lost j lucas then moved that the chairman leave the chair and that lewis fralick take the stame car ried nathan fellows moved seconded by e perry that the thanks of this meeting are due to allan mc pherran esc not only for his impartial nd gentle manlike conduct in the chair but also fur the firm straight forward and independent course he constant ly pursued whilst he discharged the toico of toth parties tlio chairman addressed the meeting io a pithy and consistent speech and before jhe hound of his lust word was heard mr cartwnjrht secured to himself the honor of moving the adjournment of the meeting for two weeks stammering out ot the same time some few indistinct words about the honor of representing tho county t exclusive loyalty and all that e perry esq then suggested the propri ety of adjourning until the second baturduv in april and to the usual place of holding llie elections which was cairied unani mously the chairman having left ihc chair and j c fr esq being elected thereto a resolution was moved and seconded bv the reformers conveying the thanks of the meeting to the chair man the pleasure of beholding the firm quiet and independent conduct of th triehds of messrs- bid well and perry when their numbers for exceeded hy more than double those of the opposite party more than repaid mo for the trouble of my 12 miles journey through mud and rain notwithstanding the u periority of their numbers the high principles generally pos sessed by the friends of reform would not permit them to cast a single reflection upon the untimely call of the meeting nor utter one word in reproach for the disgraceful act in callio it at a place so distant and so completely render the control of the atnlntious candidate would the tones have treated their opponents in sogentle- manly a manner had the majority been on their sidet the answer is obvious from former precedents had the reformers staid at home would have been proclaimed a candi date as by tha unanimous voice of a very numerous body of the elector without the least opposition camden march 10 1834 a moderate reformer for the british whig mr editor having occasion to stop for a night at an ino in a very pretty village not an hundred miles from kingston after a days ride over execrable roads i was in tho evening aroused by the tinging of a 7 by 9 bell the firing of guns and yelling off supposed half the village and starting up to ascer tain llie cause i found on enquiry that it was merely a tittltfun of the roguish urchins of the place whih all the authority nf the very pewnf magistrates of the place could not suppress about midnight fatigue overcame the love of fun in the young gcrtfumtn many of whom i learned were members offcmilicd which should he respectable and they
