community fallout shelter for 2000 the markham community was presented lat week with a 3f- thousand square foot allout shelter by the markham centre merchants association deputy reeve paul mingay of markham village received the key to the giant shelter from ohn connell president of the association alderman joseph piccininni o toronto was pres ent on a oneman inspection tour i the shelter was built under i the markham centre and in cludes 3foot thick concrete j walls the markham centre can hold up to 2000 people in j a community of 1300 a shower j area was built into the shelter through lawrence hennessey whitchurch town ship and henry slack of stouff ville both candidates in recent municipal elections mrs albert clara smith formerly of stouffville now liv ing in toronto left by plane for saskatoon sask on saturday dec 9th to be with her sister and brotherinlaw who will bs celebrating their golden wed ding anniversary on christ mas day the tribune is appreciative of information provided by mr geo partridge in connection with the serious accident near ballantrae on thursday evening as a result this newspaper was the only one present at tha scene and firsthand information was provided by the vandorf opp who investigated the col lision the poppy drive promoted by branch 459 of the canadian le gion brought in a financial re turn of 18329 the memorial day service offering amounted to 7706 and the ladies auxil iary memorial tea earned 116- 50 making a lotal receipt of 37685 when all expenses are met the balance will be used for the relief and aid to
