husband edward cammaek testified that after family court he had arranged to pick up shirley at her house after lunch drive to his moth ers house to pick up the baby and return them to shirleys house when he arrived at shirleys house to pick her up there was a note on the door stating that she had waited until 2 pm and had gone to fetch the baby her self to get the baby and its clothes edward claimed that when he got back downstairs shirley was standing in the hall and when thomas came in she bit him in the nose causing it to bleed he then took shirley by the arm and sat her on the chesterfield choked with tie when thomas walked thro ugh the hall into the kitchen shirley grabbed him by the hair and took the stove lifter off the stove to hit him edward grabbed the stove lifter and put shirley on the chesterfield again site then grabbed him by his tie and began choking him stated edward edward told the court that shirley then threw herself at the door and when he assisted her in getting up he noticed the blood coming from her head edward testified that he then with the aid of his brother thomas put shirley in his truck and went to the doctor in stouffville when shirley refused treat ment by the stouffville doctor he drove her to the oshawa general hospital on the way to the hospital she again as saulted thomas who asked him to stop the truck and got out stated edward cammaek lift rail tie edward told the court that when a nurse in the hospital asked shirley what had hap pened she replied that they were having a free for all he also told the court that his assizes in whitby william r prentice rr 1 sunderland was granted the special and general damages in a claim against norman james of uxbridge the court award ed james damages totalling 9432 the action arose out of a cartruck crash on highway 7 and 12 one mile north of man chester on aug 4 i960 pren tice claimed that he was pro ceeding north and overtaking a truck also proceeding north near the intersection of a town ship road he said he sounded his horn and started to pass the truck as he nearcd the truck he claimed the truck suddenly made a left turn in front of him and they collided prentice spent nine days in hospital and lost six weeks work plaintiff and defendant had earlier agreed on the special damages each claimed prentice special damages were set at s277s15 and james special damages were set at 47310 the suppreme court jury found prentice 20 per cent neg ligent and james so per cent negligent they set prentice general damages for pain and suffering at 1130 showman ross bailey of uxbridge edged out the top dairy showgirl gloria cooper brooklin rr 1 who won the trophy last year these two champions had to prove their ability to show both their dairy and beef calves in competing for the trophy the t eaton trophy which rotates among the dairy breeds was this year awarded for the top junior ayrshire calf shown by gloria cooper in the oshawa 4h dairy calf club fourteen boys and girls showed calves representing 4 breeds each was awarded points both for their calf and for showmanship which will be added to the points which they accumulated through the club year the top showmen were gloria cooper and bill mcdon ald the various sections for calves were won by jack holli- day heather holliday gloria cooper harold guthrie and doug batty twentyfour members of the brougham 4h calf club ex hibited their calves to complete their club project the top dairy showman was gladys dis ney while don lindo was the top beef showman winners of the various classes were john wilson kenn wilson keith jones jim wilson and don lin do the brougham junior calf club is composed of members under 12 years of age twelve boys and girls showed calves linda
