biggest upset in the last meeting between the 2 teams stouffville bowed to the county town boys 121 jim daniels was in control all the way and worked the entire seven inning distance he was aided by a call it quits on tuesday night he returned to active competition and turned in a sparkling defensive perfor mance to lead the aces to an 82 victory over pickering it was the same jack watson in a familiar role pouncing on bunted balls grabbing linedrive shots or smothering infield pop- ups he appeared to strengthen one of toe weak links in the markharn roster in the second and third innings he was on the starting end of two sizzling double plays in the ninth he gloved a liner from the bat of pickerings ted oldfield to end the inning and the game the aces hase now stretched their victory st stouffville passed away at uxbridge cottage hos pital on sunday july 9 1961 after an illness of 12 weeks he was born in king township in 1881 son of the late thomas and margaret ferguson of king in 1910 he married mabel brown and 37 years ago they came to make their home in the stouff ville district and since retiring from the farm have lived on second st mr ferguson is sur vived by his wife and 3 daugh ters gwendolyn mrs gordon cober ruth mrs d dunn and marion mrs george bald win two brothers harry of newmarket george of toronto and a sister bertha mrs leo cull also survive as well as 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren he was identified with the presbyterian church and was a member of the oddfellows lodge the funeral service in charge of rev w h fuller was at the l e oneill funeral minister and wife mark silver anniversary monday was the occasion of the annual stouffville baptist sunday school picnic bus and cars transported children and grownups to lazy lake where the picnic was to be held due however to weather conditions it was decided to return to the stouffville memorial park to complete the events of the day a splendid meal was enjoyed by all and before the children went out to take part in their sports the rev and mrs jesse williams were called forward by mr fred mccleary and were presented with a beautiful bou quet of flowers on behalf of the church by brenda morden two sunday school boys then car ried in a cake having the design of an open bible inscribed with anniversary greetings and a text mr bert lickorlsh also on behalf of the church presented the rev williams with a purse containing sixtyfive silver doll ars mr williams spoke on be half of himself and his wife and expressed sincere appreciation for the kindness shown them by their people the presentation ended with a hearty chorus of hes a jolly good fellow sung by children and parents alike embarking on a series of sun day evening services in memor ial park stouffville the four cooperating churches were greatly encouraged by the evi dent reaction to the first meet ing last sunday evening al most 200 worshippers crowded the grandstand at the ball diam ond along with another 100 peo ple in cars to witness the pro ceedings prior to the service which be gan at 730 pm pastor bass of the stouffville christian church conducted a prayer meeting in the baptist church from 645 to 715 during this same half- hour recorded hymns and sac red songs were played in the park hvmn singing began at 730 with mr l stouffer lead ing and mr f mccleary at the organ we certainly want to thank pontings music centre of newmarket for donating the organ for this service pastor williams led the meet ing assisted by the othur min isters mrs walsh of the unit ed missionary church was the soloist and everyone received real blessing from her two num bers the speaker for this initial service was rev r c macken zie from uxbridge presbyterian church he challenged all who attended with a message from john 3 the lord greatly bless ed in this hourlong meeting and showed to one and all that great things are in store for us during the coming weeks next week another outstand ing meeting with rev harry percy of the sudan interior mis sion speaking and the ambas sador choir under the direction of mr cyril redford will com bine with our own christian mens fellowship choir to pro vide music at its best the cowan family met in the local park on sunday for their annual gettogether around 30 were present and this included some from milton and highland creek
