they were not ade quate today we a a council have no in tention of forcing the issue of a school area so long as the trustee take up the matter themselves and can report on some progress said reeve dean inspector reports insp maynard hallman pre pared a full brief for the meet ing covering the several ways in which a school area could be established for the township mr hallman advised his audi ence in his opening remarks that markham township was away behind the times in elim inating the small oneroom school he said that in the prov ince as a whole only 15 of all the pupils were still being edu cated in these small schools while in markham township 42 of all the pupils were still attending the little red school house losing money markham schools he said were losing money by not hav ing the area established the first year such an area is es tablished eah school section re ceives a grant of s3300 and this is increased to 500 each year thereafter as markham has over 20 sections it would mean some 10000 additional revenue to have the area boards some schools might face higher costs he said but this is no different from the situa- 1 tion they are facing now where their present building is not i ample mr hallman further stated that the oneroom school was not as simple an operation now as previously since many were i being called on to takepupilsi from neighboring schools due
