ftp 12 the stowfvou tribune tkcrxfcy may 18 1961 suggest softball boundaries to halt player piracy eoundary lires may be es tablished according to wards to halt the stealing of players jrom one community to per form in another in the picker ing township softball league this matter was discussed at some length at a recreation committee meeting in broug ham on wednesday night it was suggested that french mans bay had been guilty o this practice in the past committee president mr bern baker contended that tome areas were hesitant about fielding clubs in the township league because too many boys were being taken by other teams the main purpose of our league is to enable every boy and girl to compete who is desirous of playing ball he said softball committee chairman mr clare holter agreed that boundary lines would be a good idea he noted however that he could see no reason why players couldnt perform with their own particular communi ties in the township league but still strengthen the french mans bay club in the ontario playoffs it was agreed that individual player registration cards should be given to each team in the township all players ages will be recorded and may be checked prior to each contest with reference to softball sup plies mr baker urged each community to make an effort to raise sufficient funds to pur chase at least a portion of their teams equipment you owe it both to the taxpayers and to yourselves to be at least partial ly selfsupporting he said he pointed out that the recreation association was required to op- crate with limited funds make final bid for berth in tricity ball plan pickering umpire school an umpires school may help to lend instruction to any wouldbe officials within the township of pickering and sur rounding area the suggestion was promoted by mr kal vize- ly a member of the pickering township recreation associa tion their regular monthly meeting was held on wedres- j night of this week it had been day night hoped that an intermediate ent- mr clare holter chairman ry could make a comeback here prospects of stouffville catch ing a berth in the tricounty league are far from bright ac- j cording to local representa tives the group already par tially reorganized appears un willing to accept entries from either stouffville or port perry due to the distance factor the league will include clubs from lindsay 2 fenelon falls and at least three other centres it has been operating for a num ber of seasons stouffville will make its final bid at a meeting on thursdav of the township softball lea gue complained that too many umpires in the group were not acquainted with the rules of the game he suggested that a small remuneration per game would prompt more qualified men to offer their services- association president mr bern baker suggested that such payments could possibly be taken from the teams regis tration fees mr holter agreed to obtain accommodation in the pickering village community hall for the officials school the exact date will be announced after several seasons of junior ball word from markham has it that the red sox have fold ed and the majority of men will line up with the spindly and in some cases woody coarse and very ugly whats more it seems to be a noreliefinsight situation the remedy most adhered to being the hideaway method be hind a large chair is an excel lent spot right now the thought of pruning must be a very remote consideration but sharpen the scissors anyway because a bit of trimming could bring these house plants out of their most deplorable rut since pinching is done primar ily to cause bushiness and a spreading type of growth its a good idea to pinch the plant be fore it gets too high young ten der stems may be pinched by hand but the tougher types should be cut with a sharp knife always cut above a leaf joint or node to get a treelike fuchsia plant heres what to do as it is growing remove all side- shoots until a desired height is reached next pinch off the ter minal shoot to make the plant branch at the top then to get a bushier top just pinch back the new branches soleus geranium gardenia and rubber plant will become bushier as a result of pinching at home mr and mrs herb wideman will be at home to their friends on monday may 22nd from 3 to 500 pm and 7 to 900 pm the occasion being their 43th wedding anniversary cedar
