many items of local in terest the finishing processes at browns corners church are still the big news and a good many men in the community are unsung heroes these days spen ding night after night at exact ing tasks of laying doors paint ing polishing carpentering and cleaning everyone agrees that the results are worthwhile and it is expected opening services will be held feb 12 19 and 20 with a smorgasbord dinner on the evening of feb 11 during christmas week there were special items of interest but perhaps they deserve head ings of their own christmas show on wednesday evening dec 2s the ypu of victoria square presented a variety program at browns corners church pro ceeds for the church building fund president joy fuller was the mc for the evening and during the first half of the pro gramme there were comedy skits and dancing to please the audience after intermission the setting changed and under blue floodlights and with accompany ing organ music the young peo ple presented a reverent nativ ity play the young people are to be highly commended for their en terprise and desire to assist in the task of raising funds for the new building on tuesday even ing of the same week this group had given the same programme for the benefit of the 300 in mates at the ontario hospital aurora an 1 on this occasion they took gifts of candy for ail the patients included in the cast were misses judy hon donna don- by margaret smith tom ste phenson hon tucker jcnnette wtlkins ann buchanan john gee kathy wright susan ball lynn arrott an bltralngton reg crawford bruce palmer don gohn buttonville wi hall all the funds raised will be used to purchase comforts and treats for patients in the local area euchre on friday evening when eu chre players met at buttonville wi hall for the first game of the winter series markham twps newly installed reeve mr w r dean took the gentle mens honours for the evening and was winner of the lucky draw a small turkey another newly elected council member mr charles hooper was also a prize winner along with mr elmer hill who placed first ladles prizes went to mrs bea thomson miss evelyn tri mble and mrs betty wray messrs wm muirhead and wm middleton were freezcout win ners against messrs don brodie and matt davie there were 20 tables of play ers in attendance and hostesses for the evening were mrs rich ard pralet mrs harper and mrs aubrey stephenson the second game will be play ed january 20th school meeting well if poor attendance at the annual school meeting is any thing to go by it seems school matters have gone well for an other year the dedicated hardworking gentlemen who guard our chil drens school life and watch your tax dollar and mine sel dom hear a word out of any of us unless it is in complaint not that we mean to seem ungrate fulwe just forget to mention our approval annual report deo 03 10c0 appreciation is expressed to mr and mrs hiorth for their cooperation and services in school maintenance in i9go a new field track was completed in conjunction with the skating rink this resulted in the district athletic field day being held at your school the district teachers conference was held in the school and prompted many pleasing remarks from visiting teachers during the year the general condition of the grounds was improved a new bicycle rack was provided new radio and record player and minor drain age repairs the exterior of the building was painted and for the first time the brick and mas onry of the older part of the building was painted blending the colour of the old to the new the memorial cairn erected in appreciation to all who have served the cause of education was installed during the sum mer the bell that served the community school for eighty years or more now serves as a crown to the undying memory of all those who have served the cause of education in this com munity the names would in clude teachers instructors trus tees architects engineers arti sans and those who labour to make this building a wholesome place of learning tiio ratepayers have cause for confidence as another year of re duction in the rate of levy has been experienced from a very reasonable high in 1936 it has been possible to effect a constant reduction each year and with a pleasing surplus this year under review the indications are most favourable for further reduc tions the record shows 1950 general inspector graded school accommodation 1 and teach ing above average an election was held to ap point a board member since mr pattersons term of office was up mr patterson was re elected by acclamation for a 4th term and will serve again with messrs jack marrott and bill hood mr walter craig is sec retarytreasurer ailstar game a picked team of stouffville community league all stars will play host to gray the marriage of johann mac- gregor gray to william donald hartford took place december 22 at the kirkland lake home of the brides parents sir and mrs kenneth c gray the bridegroom is the son of the late mr and mrs william hart ford rev j a lougheed offi ciated the home was festive with a sparkling christmas tree banks of white chrysanthemums and many tall white tapers the wedding music was bride wore a lovely gown of ivory peau de soio with matching petal hat and stiffen ed veil she carried white orch ids the attendant was mrs har old bimm who wore pink peau de soie with matching hat and carried a nosegay of pink roses the best man was harold bimm following the ceremony the brides mother received the guests wearing a draped brown sheath small flowered hat and corsage of yellow orchids mrs john moor grandmother of the groom wore teal blue lace with matching hat and white orchids mr and mrs hartford honey- rroorcd n the lauienttans the bride travelled in a moss green tweed suit with beaver top coat ad brown accessories on their york county automation corn and hay conditioners attracted the at tention of york county farmers last week at the annual meet ing of the york county soil crop improvement assoc this annual event drew a record at tendance of over 350 to the new market town hall the audience was particular ly interested in dr w s youngs address on hay con ditioners dr young confirmed the opinion that hay condition ers reduce drying time by about one day witii results from ac tual experiments he exploded however the commonly held opinion that cows eat mation in farming was present ed by bruce mehlenbaeher of cayuga he showed pictures of his two silos 24 x go each hold ing s00 tons of feed enough to feed about 250 beef cattle for the season his automated system with practically no hand labour allows him to harvest 150 tons of silage per day nnd feeding it out is mainly a mat ter of pushing buttons with his silo unloaders and lazy susan
