bill hood m c at bantam hockey banquet bountiful mosquito crop with mosquitoes about the only sensible attitude to take is to keep a cool head once the crop matures and all the evi dence indicates that this years will be bountiful there is noth ing much a man can do about it he can spend all his time in doors which some say is the prudent course or he can pre tend the mosquitoes dont exist either way mosquitoes test a mans character and in that sense are a blessing to remain indoors on a pleasant spring or summer evening especially when the lawn and garden need cultivation is no easy thing to do it is equally hard to pay no attention at all to the mos quitoes a man who can keep his head and take one course or the other while abstaining from vigorous denunciations of mosquitoes that achieve noth ing proves tiiat he is master of himself to be sure not everyone will agree that mosquitoes are a blessing in any sense at all after slapping and flailing about all evening after using words of violent tone they would say that anyone who can see good in mosquitoes must be a lunatic they are entitled to their opin ion but actions speak louder than words the man who slaps at every passing mosquito is clearly enslaved by his torment- er the other man is not but even for the slapper there is some comfort the life cycle of a mosquito is relatively short perhaps eight or 10 weeks the scientists say it is less but they get their information from books and possibly by catch ing the occasional mosquito caking it and measuring its life span but the man who contin ually gets bitten knows that a mosquito feeding regularly on rich blood and getting plenty of healthful exercise lives ten weeks anyway some time tow ard the end of august there should be a blessed release the pleasures of a world free of mosquitoes will then be all the more keenly enjoyed for having lived through the pres ent plague ottawa citizen on monday evening of last week 15 members of the bantam b
