township today mr fullers father left brou gham at the age of 23 when he first married he recalled earlier days with reminiscences and an ecdotes mr fullers father had worked in the fields- when men were binding sheaves by hand he had worked at threshings with horse power to drive a cyl inder threshing machine and the steam engine later hauled around by horses in those days mr fuller learn ed from his father about broug hams five or more hotels down the brock road he said went wagons or sleighs teaming grain to frenchmans bay to be load ed upon boats he attended the brougham fair when a ity mr fuller had for stating that the barclay family came from fifeshire scotland to this port of upper canada in 1816 the handwritten petition of elder george barclay is one for a grant of a 200 acre farm and a notation states that the request was granted barclay did not fix on a definite location so the document was never basis for a farm in 1821 george barclay wrote another petition to ask for land designating himself as a baptist minister asking for 200 acres in lot 19 concession 4 which had reverted to the crown he did not obtain this farm but this document is a fine example of his excellent handwriting and signature mr barclay finally purchased and settled on lot 19 con 7 where some of his descendants still reside frank barclay now has his business and his home on the property and harold barclay recently vacated the old homestead there to move near lindsay it is told that the eldest son of elder barclay george jr was deeply involved in the mcken- 7ie rebellion manuscripts from the dominion archives state george barclay jr was in arms at montgomerys and an active follower of peter mathews in his expedition to burn the don bridge his case is aggravated by the robbery of a person whom he and some of his com panions pillaged on the high way the father of this young man is a baptist preacher and bears a very bad character for disaffection mr fuller has presented pic
