and is conval escing at the home of hee sis ter mrs frank thompson in toronto mr ralph baker underwent a very serious heart operation at toronto general hospital on friday at the time of writing although mr bakers condition is still very critical he is as well as can be expected his many friends are very pleased for his progress thus far mr and mrs melvin hender son spent the holiday weekend at elim lodge near peterboro mr and mrs ronald elliott and douglas spent thanksgiv ing with mr and mrs harold sheik and family at preston wms rally was held all day thursday at bantield memorial church in toronto two car loads of ladies from here at tended and enjoyed the speak ers mrs eldon boettger pres ently of stouffville rev rich ard reilley of elkhart indiana and rev gordon bolender now of kitchener mr and mrs harry baxter peter and karen moved on fri day to stouffville mrs e c wilford of toronto spent thanksgiving with her brotherinlaw and sister mr and mrs r g britnell mrs c r wilcox left by bus on thursday night for wolfe- ville nova scotia to be with her soninlaw and daughter mr and mrs leonard creelman and their little baby son ste phen gregory who arrived last wednesday entertain ed several friends at her birth day party on wednesday mrs frank bennett entertain ed a number of children and their mothers in honour of her daughter sharons third birth day on wednesday another new citizen has ar rived a son timothy born to mr and mrs harry barber jr mr and mrs ray winger evelyn bennett were guests of honour at a miscellaneous shower on thursday night at fordwich special thanksgiving serv ices were held in our local chur ches on sunday truly we have so many things for which to be thankful in our fair land we couldnt help thinking of sev eral citizens who have passed on recently making changes in our community then also sev eral other residents have had very severe illnesses and we are very grateful they are much better mr victor britnell spent thanksgiving at kirkland lake on sunday morning the 3 departments of the united mis sionary sunday school started functioning the new preschool department was begun for the first time with mrs c e hun- king as supt these children met in the basement and had their complete school by them selves the jr dept held their school in another part of the basement only the adult de partment met in the main audi torium of the church we feel this is a forward step as each departments programme can more adequately suit its age group for a sunday or two it will seem rather strange not to see the whole school as one unit in the opening exercises i mr and mrs geo french are wearing broad smiles its an- other great granddaughter bom i to mr and mrs lloyd rush of ridgeway miss nancy cober is spending a few weeks with mr and mrs orran fretz of bethesda mr frank harvey spent mon day with mr and mrs george french a large number of people from gormley were present at the dedication service of the new brethren in
