dozen per mits said the spokesman dep reeve scott informed the delegation that there would be definitely no further permits is sued on 50foot frontage lots he said that the planning board were strongly opposed both dep reeve scott and councillor stewart contended that council must support the planning boards stand on the matter it was moved by councillor hawthorne and seconded by councillor james that council seek legal advice to find out if present construction on 50foot lots can be halted pending an outcome of the appeal and that no further permits be issued in the area the motion before picker ing township council at their regular meeting on monday eve ning to protest the pollution of lake ontario water in his area by the ontario hospital at whitby the odour is shocking said mr blakeley something must be done he contradicted a pre vious report that decaying sea weed was responsible for the problem dep reeve sherman scott in formed the complainant that the ontario county health unit had inspected the hospitals sewer age system and found it to be very bad both dr eric mac- bean- moh and john robson sanitary inspector agreed that they believed decaying seaweed was also partly to blame councillor mrs jean mcpher- son informed mr blakeley that the health unit would conduct further investigations along the entire shoreline from the whit by hospital to pickering beach cedar grove on satur day night mr and mrs howard forsythe of goodwood visited with mr and mrs newton laughlin and emma on sunday mrs t mcgill and family of sarnia are holidaying with her parents mr and mrs john petty 4h club boys and girls visit college at guelph one hundred and thirty boys and girls from 4h homemaking and agricultural clubs in on tario county had a very success ful bus trip to the ontario agri cultural college guelph on wednesday july 2nd 1958 the trip was under the super vision of the ontario dept of agriculture with h l fair ag ricultural rep al blades asst rep and wilda gordon home economist in attendance on arrival at the oac the group was taken on a conducted bus tour of the college grounds on this tour the boys and girls saw the ontario veterinary col lege the macdonald institute and other buildings associated with the oac following a complimentary lunch separate tours were ar ranged for the homemaking and agricultural clubs the highlight of the day for the homemaking club girls was a tour pf macdonald institute dr margaret mccready princi pal of macdonald institute wel comed the girls and gave a brief outline of the courses offered by the institute she encouraged the girls to continue their stud ies and to take advantage of the many opportunities in the field of home economics today the 4h agricultural club boys and girls were taken on a tour of the 600 acre arkell farm which is the livestock research centre operated by the oac at guelph on the farm the swine research laboratory the beef sire testing unit the steer feed ing barn and the turkey rei search station are located the 1 boys and girls toured the steer j feeding barn where the man- agement practices were out lined here all different combina tions of feed are tested on hereford shorthorn and angus steers the swine research lab oratory work was outlined for the visitors by prof r p for- shaw at the beef sire testing unit bulls are tested for rate of gain per day per pound of feed fed bulls enter the 168 day test at 714 months and are graded according to the results of the test period this is done to ob tain advanced registry of beef bulls and for the overall im provement of the beef breeds on return to the college from arkell a tour was conducted over the forage crop plots man aged by the department of field husbandry here explanation of the type of work carried on was given the importance of good pasture and hay seed mixtures combined with good soil man agement was emphasized of interest to all was the tour of the new oac physical edu cation building it is one of the most modern buildings of its type in north america assisting on this bus tour were several ontario county 4h club leaders mrs jas smith atherley mrs john gray ud- ney mrs w don smith bea- vcrton rr 1 mrs r j eiroy beaverton rr 2 mrs albert cooper brooklin rr 1 mrs r harden brougham mrs chas ingleton uxbridge rr 3 mrs c ashenhurst uxbridge rr 3 and mrs david crosier stouff ville boys and girls from 411 agri cultural clubs in brant grey and waterloo counties also par ticipated in this very enjoyable and highly educational tour of the oac july 2nd we mentioned in an earlier report that the ballantrae ball teams were really playing ball they did it again saturday the senior team downed dixon hill and the juniors trimmed a team from the 6th line well done fcllovs a great big happy bhthday years j to andrew watson for having his 12th birthday on monday july 7th the family had a little private party and all enjoyed it mrs margaret gray played hostess to the ballantrae young people last friday evening af ter the regular meeting the young people were invited to mrs grays home to enjoy a a number of people from theip toronto lodge it was a real picnic and everyone thorough granddaughter gail from regina sask called on mr and mrs d mcdonald last week with friends in toronto we hope she will soon be well en ough to be home again the south shore association held its annual meeting sunday last years slate of officers were reelected mr ernie stanton is president plans are going a- head to winterize the commun ity hall as soon as possible they are also planning euchres for extra to her planned talk on mission work in india which she really gave us ah insight into show ing how mission work is going ahead for canadian missionaries in india and yet their great need is more volunteers a picnic lunch brought another inspiring meeting to a close there was an undertone of disappointment that the water was so cold for the baptist ss picnic however the largest crowd for yeas mays home sorry to learn that mr grant hill was involved in an accident when his car rolled over and he and his passenger mr norman faulkner were both quite badly shaken up norm has a broken toe and an 8stitch cut on his head mr don spencely mr george evans and grandson paul left last friday for monteith to stay a few days another home was sold rec ently and the present resident will be missed
