12 the stowfvhlf thwhe jkmiiy wy 3 w58 wholesale destruction the appearance of our grandstand in the memorial park presents a rather deplorable sight it is a sorry state of affairs when both adults and children show so little regard for public property as to transform it into its present mutilated condition both local and visiting ball players continually use the stand for a warmup backstop the dents in the metal certainly dont speak well for their accuracy one section has a gaping hole almost one foot in width in spite of repeated warnings by local police and park attendants players continue to pound and batter the stand to ribbons it should not be necessary to issue repeated warnings in order to halt such wholesale destruction although the grand stand was a gift to the town it cost money plenty of money and such treatment should not be taken lightly by the park board while other towns beg and borrow in order to obtain funds to erect such uptodate facilities our sportsmen appear to have a wanton urge to destroy our modern structures surely we dont have to post a fulltime guard in the park in order to keep things in order warning placards should not even be necessary it would take armorplate siding to withstand the abuse that our grandstand has been subjected to within the past few seasons lets treat our park property with more respect its always easier to tear down than to build up fixe ferformance the baseball final between our towns two top squirt teams on thursday evening was without doubt one of the most exciting contests we have witnessed here this season for the majority of these lads the game marked the windup of their initial entry into an organized league the enthusiasm displayed by the boys was ample proof of the programmes success it is to be hoped that such a scheme will be carried on when another year rolls around the baseball promoters here in stouffville are to be com mended for their organizational efforts the amazing ability of these young boys certainly impressed every fan in attendance at the game i personally could hardly believe that such a noticeable improvement could be perfected in such a short time i only wish that every adult in town could have seen the contest the weatherman was not cooperative but a heavy down pour of rain could not deter the boys enthusiasm it was truly stouffvilles little world series out of moth balls the report that stouffvilles veteran red sox team will tike their spikes and gloves out of moth balls for a onenight home stand was indeed good news this week these men who brought much baseball prominence to our town a few seasons back have agreed to challenge the junior cardinals to an exhibition game the exact date has not been announced but you may be sure the contest will receive the necessary pub licity it rightly deserves the decision by the red sox to retire from active par ticipation in organized baseball a few years ago left a loophole in our park programme that never has been adequately filled i dont believe that any town could boast a more potent roster of home talent to be compared with bob hassards entry they took on all comers and defeated towns and cities more than five and six times the size of stouffville it wasnt necessary for the management to secure ringers from all corners of the county in order to field a winner every player came from within or on the borderline of the town it is not necessary to rename these performers their names will go down into the records of stouftvilles baseball history it will be this same team that will reappear again within the next few weeks the game will be a must for every baseballloving fan in the district arkham beats cardinals 75 here thursday night markham and stouffville re new their baseball rivalry here
