person last issue i spoke about the i house on the corner of lot 14 i builr by richard atkinson a i brother of simeon their father j owned that farm so i was told i by one of richards daughters j richard lived in that house and i also built the other building on 1 tiiat lot he moved from there to i the farm in 1890 where his son i clarence and his daughters now live job scott lived on the west side of the fifth on lot 13 his good wife was a miss steckley he and richard atkinson were brothersinlaw job had four or five of a family one boy dud ley was in the old stouffville baseball team of years ago one of jobs girls was ed logans first wife and edgerton clubine the only remaining family of ezra clubine married the other girl the boy who now lives on the old farm married a daughter of they both spend their winters in flor ida ross brown married the other daughter but she has pass ed on richard chapmans wife was a miss hare i remember david clarke telling my father that when richard died he was call ed on to lay him out and get him ready for the coffin and that he had the hardest hands of any man he ever knew f his venerable old gentleman chap man was a hard working man and was hard to heat at hand ling a pick and shovel he help ed to cut down the gravel hill north of stouffville i men tioned this before he also help ed cut down the clarkson hill west of tiie devils elbow and i understand that lie and his gang boarded in the house that still stands on that farm that old clarkson farm is a string hundred and runs out to the fifth of markham when they cut the hill down there was a man killed there tiie bank fell down on him and killed him the hiproofed barn on the chapman farm was built in 1901 i understand it is one barn on the fifth that richard atkinson did not the name of j tcasdaie lot 12 west side was the thomas foote farm and was j left to his only son samuel who married a miss banbury off the next farm south they had the i two fine daughters i just men- i tioned in this writing ill never torget thomas foote and the j time when the barn was built on the old foote farm framed j by richard atkinson his son samuel sent this old gentleman out to stouffville to get a wagon load of that old fashioned lump lime that the late beit kennedy used to sell he was coming home along the sideroad by the j old steckley farm east of beth- 1 esda and had just turned off the sixth concession when a i rainstorm came along the late john phillips and i had just pulled in at this farm ro get out 61 the storm when mr koote arrived with his learn on the gallop we left the gate- open got to the barn and opened the doors so he could pull right in- side on the barn floor he ran the horses inside the barn load and all and after he got in there the lime commenced to slake and smoke well it didnt do any harm to j the wagonbox or lime but he i had reached the barn just in the i nick of time after the shower- was over he backed the load out i and drove off home the wagon i box and lump lime not much the worse phillip and 1 had a good laugh over the incident and have of ten mentioned afterward what might have taken place samuel koote was a member of the whitchurch council in 1907 or 190s and for a few years after that i remember a chest nut driver he bought from ted meyer bert staley worked for mr koote at that time he married may talbot to meet bert the odd time on j sunday nigiit when he was drivs ing west out the sideroad south of the talbot farm lot 11 was the john atkinson farm east side of the fifth his wife was a miss dennison and j her people lived on the west side of the fifth of markham on i lot 32 robert agar litter lived on that farm iiis monument stands in the north cemetery at i victoria squarerobert enjoyed j attending the oldfashioned barn raisings john atkinson sold out j there and moved to stouffville he and the late samuel cook were two of the leading drovers j shipping cattle and hogs bj train william raymond
