Chief Charles Big Canoe Buried in Georgina Island
Newmarket Era (Newmarket, ON), 9 May 1930, p. 6

Media Type:
Item Type:
Chief Charles Big Canoe, aged 99, was buried on the island reserve of Georgina Island yesterday. Indian custom, which insists on burial on the appointed day, decided by the chief, was violated on Saturday. So far has civilization and Christianity taken hold of the Indians of the reserve that they no longer regard the precedents set down by their ancestors as a definite course.
