Welland, Jan. 29. In a spectacular blast, which hurled frozen earth clods hundreds feet in the air, a section of the remaining wall between the old and new sections of the Welland canal was blown up today.

Ten tons of dynamite were used to explode one of the last obstacles to the completion of the giant inland waterway.

No damage was done to surrounding construction works.
