Description
Full Text

One of the most prominent and successful fruit growers in the district, Arthur Wesley Smith, husband of Adelaide Ethelyn Smith, passed away at the family residence, Vineland Station, on Friday afternoon.

Mr. Smith's passing was unexpected, in spite of the fact that he had not been enjoying the best of health for some weeks.

Born at Winona, 73 years ago, he had been engaged as a fruit farmer for the past 43 years.

For many years he was on the executive and directorates of many fruit growers' associations. A pioneer in the formation of the Vineland Growers' Co-Operative, he was also a director of that organization. Throughout the province of Ontario Mr. Smith's opinion was respected, and sought by many interested in the fruit growing industry.

In religion, he was a staunch member of the Vineland United Church, and was also a member of Ivy Lodge, No. 115, AF&AM-GRC of Beamsville, and was also a member of the Scottish Rite.

To mourn his demise, he leaves, besides his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Margaret) Moyer of Grimsby; one son, Harold, of Vineland Sta.; one sister, Mrs. Howard Sweeney of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Joshua of Greenville, Ont., and a twin brother, Howard, of Winona; also 7 grandchildren.
