The Revd. E.A. Brooks officiating, St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Grimsby, was the setting for a pretty wedding at 4 o'clock Saturday, Sept. 27th, 1952, when Shirley Ann, eldest daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Earl W. Cornwell became the bride of Mr. Donald Ross Tolmie, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.D. Tolmie, Lindsay, Ont.
Given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Earl J.W. Cornwell, the bride wore a gown of white brocade fashioned with fitted bodice, long sleeves and Queen Beth collar, the full hooped skirt ending in a short train. A matching Juliet cap held her shoulder length veil in place. She carried a bouquet of white Fleur d'Amour.
Mrs. Donald Riches, as her sister's matron of honour, wore an ankle length gown of deep blue sparkle taffeta, made with full skirt and short sleeved jacket. Miss Perlea Cornwell, as her sister's bridesmaid, wore a dress of the same style and material in pale gold. Both wore matching caps, gloves and slippers. They carried bouquets of gladioli florettes and mums, shaded from pale yellow to bronze.
Mr. Gordon Tolmie, Lindsay, Ont., brother of the groom, was best man. The ushers were Mr. Allan Sharp, Toronto, Dr. Blake Harley, St. Catharines. Mr. John Frizzell, Toronto, was soloist and Mrs. Duncan MacIntosh was organist.
After the ceremony a reception was held in St. Andrew's Parish Hall. Mrs. Cornwell in a light wine costume with black accessories and corsage of white glamellias was assisted in receiving by Mrs. Tolmie, the groom's mother, in a gown of gray lace with navy accessories and corsage of pink rosette roses.
The happy couple left by motor on a trip to the New England states. The bride wore a red tweed suit, with black hat and accessories. Her corsage was white gardenias.
On their return Mr. and Mrs. Tolmie will reside in Welland.
