Herbert Brooks, formerly of Barrie and Hamilton, died last week in Alameda, California.
Born April 3rd, 1879, at Little Bentley, Essex, England, he was the fourth child of Robert Brooks and Sharon Anna Wright. His boyhood was spent at Wakes Colne, near Colchester, but he came to Canada early in life to settle at Barrie, Ont., later living in Hamilton and St. Catharines. A life-long Anglican, he was a devoted churchman.
Mr. Brooks was twice married, in 1905 to Louisa A. Armson, of Barrie, who died in 1911, and in 1915 in Berkley, Cal. to Clara E. Michael, formerly of Niagara Falls, Ont. For many years he was an employee of the John McClary Co. with offices in Hamilton.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Rev. E.A.Brooks, rector of St. Andrew's Church in Grimsby; a daughter, Miss Dorothy J. Brooks, Reg. N., of Barrie; his aunt, Mrs. R.J.Smith, and a sister, Miss Constance C. Brooks, of Toronto; two grandchildren, John and Elizabeth Brooks, Grimsby; a sister, Dorothy, five brothers, Cecil, Alfred, Edward and Leslie, in England, and Harry in Eritrea, East Africa. Two sisters, Eva and Margaret, and two brothers, Leonard and Frederick, predeceased him.
Burial of ashes will take place upon their arrival in St. Andrew's Churchyard, Grimsby.
