David Edward Fisher, a resident of Grimsby for three-quarters of a century, passed away at the Brown Nursing Home, Beamsville, early Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. He was in his 75th year.
Son of the late John and Maria Fisher, deceased was born here in Grimsby, and in his youth was considered one of the better track and field athletes in the province. He won many laurels in the 100 yard and 220 yard events. A baseball player of note, he played the infield for various district teams when that sport flourished in the Peninsula.
By profession he was considered an expert tree grafter, and was connected with the fruit industry for a great many years. He resided at 19 Adelaide Street, Grimsby.
He is survived by his wife, the former Edna Carrie Game; 3 sons, Chester, of Hamilton; John and Vance of Buffalo; 4 daughters, Mrs. Chris Fiske (Vera), of Buffalo; Mrs. Donald Green (Edith), of Port Credit; Mrs. Harvey Tufford (Gladys) of Vineland; and Mrs. Reginald Turner (Dorothy) of Grimsby.
Resting at the Stonehouse Funeral Home, services will be held for the late David Fisher on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
