Sidney Douglas Merritt, younger son of Mrs. Merritt and the late Ernest Merritt, of Smithville, died suddenly at his home in Belleville on Saturday evening following a heart attack.
In his 38th year, he was born in South Grimsby Township on December 18th, 1912. He had worked with his father in the Merritt Funeral Home for a time, later being a member of the Niagara Falls Parks Commission police force for 5 years, and serving with the RCAF for 3 and one-half years. At the time of his death, he was assistant district manager for O'Keefe's.
He was a member of Coronation Lodge, A.F. & A. M., No. 502, G.R.C. and the Kiwanis Club of Niagara Falls.
Surviving are his wife, the former Florence E. Thomson; his mother, Mrs. Ernest Merritt of Smithville; a brother, Hugh J.L. Merritt, of Kitchener; and a sister, Mrs. (Dr.) J.R. Oswald, of St. Catharines.
The Rev. J.S. Bole conducted funeral services at the Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville, Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made in Smithville United Church Cemetery.
