George Hayes, of 1176 Cannon Street East, Hamilton, died Friday at the General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born in London, England, 66 years ago, he had resided in Hamilton for the last 38 years. Prior to his retirement in 1946, Mr. Hayes was a valued employee of the National Steel Car Corporation for 20 years.

He was an adherent of the Church of England. A veteran of the First Great War, Mr. Hayes also belonged to the Old Contemptibles Association.

Besides his wife, the former Laura Maria Hayford, he is survived by 6 sons, Fred, Charles, Frank, Victor and William, all of Hamilton; and James of Grimsby; one daughter, Mrs. Earl Slack, also of Hamilton, and 13 grandchildren.
