The well known and highly respected owner of the Beamsville Lumber and Supply Company, Mr. Charles W. Shafer, suffered a heart seizure while at work in his office late Tuesday afternoon, and died almost instantly. He was in his 56th year.
His sudden demise came as a great shock to a host of Beamsville and district people who, through the years, have enjoyed his sincere manner and his congenial attitude toward his fellow men. In business and in leisure hours, the deceased always appeared to be one of those fortunates who enjoyed the little things in life, and his sudden passing will created a void in his wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
Until recently he and his wife, Marion, took active roles in sports, especially the Beamsville Badminton Club, and also with the former Deer Park Golf and Country Club.
Mr. Shafer was born in Elmira, coming to Beamsville in 1926, at which time he purchased the lumber business he had successfully operated until his untimely passing.
He was a member of Trinity United Church, Beamsville.
His only survivor is his wife, the former Marion Helm. Funeral services will be held from the J.W. Buck & Son Funeral Home Friday, September 29th, at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Mount Osborne Cemetery, Beamsville.
