Mrs. Henrietta (Nettie) Adkin, a life-long resident of Smithville, on Friday, September 8th, was 92 years of age. She spent her birthday with her only son, Edwin, and his wife at Tonawanda, New York.
Mrs. Adkin is the daughter of the late Thomas Walker and Grace Laidlaw, who came from Scotland to Fergus, Ontario and in a short time to Smithville where Mr. Walker plied his trade as a cooper for many years.
Nettie Walker and William Adkin were the first couple to be married in St. Luke's Anglican Church, Smithville, where she is still a devoted member.
She has one son, Edwin, and a daughter, the late Marjorie Hibbard, also a grandson, Craig Hibbard, of Smithville.
Mrs. Adkin became an excellent tailoress and because of splendid eyesight has been able to continue some needlework up to the present time. Two weeks ago she completed piecing a quilt top which she donated to St. Luke's Ladies' Guild.
She enjoys the daily papers and has a keen appreciation of radio, although world affairs are now much too involved to concern herself with.
