Dr. Ebenezer Hooper of Brockville, believed to be the oldest active Baptist minister in Canada and who was formerly stationed in this district, on January 3rd celebrated his 88th birthday. It is interesting to note that during Dr. Hooper's term in Beamsville about the year 1877 he held services in Grimsby and was instrumental in the building of the Baptist Church at that time.

Dr. Hooper who is a veteran of the medical profession remembers witnessing the funeral of the Duke of Wellington in his native London. During his career he has participated in the British paper trade, farming in Ontario, the ministry and medicine. Dr. Hooper served as a surgeon during the North West Rebellion nearly 50 years ago and was also the first medical superintendent of Kingston General Hospital.
