Mrs. Sarah Jane Grassie, widow of Charles Grassie, died at her home in Smithville, Friday, in her 73rd year. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Pearson, and was born in the township of Caistor on July 5, 1858. For the past 40 years, she had lived in Smithville. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Annie M. Grassie, Principal of the Smithville Public School, and 3 sons, Dr. John T. Grassie, of Welland; William E. Grassie, chemist, of Port Credit, and Charles A. Grassie, engineer and surveyor, of Welland. Funeral service was held at Smithville Presbyterian Church, Sunday and burial was at the Union Cemetery, Smithville.
