The death of William C. Hazelwood which took place Friday, Feb. 13, removes one of Wroxeter's oldest and most highly esteemed residents. Decesed was in his 79th year. He had been in delicate health for several years, but was particularly bright and active for his age and able to attend to his duties around the home. He was confined to his bed less than a week before his death.
Mr. Hazelwood was the eldest son of the late James Hazelwood, a one-time resident of Wroxeter. He engaged in farming and in the shoe business at Lakelet in his younger days, later coming to Wroxeter where he conducted a successful shoe business. He disposed of this to R.J. Rann and entered into the general store business which he continued until his retirement some 22 years ago.
Mr. Hazelwood was an active worker in the Methodist Church, holding the position of Recording Steward for 27 years as well as being Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a kind husband and father and will be greatly missed in the home.
He is survived by two sons: Dr. B.J. Hazelwood, Bowmanville; Edwin of Trail, B.C.; also by two married daughters in Vancouver and Utah, and Misses Elda and Kate at home. A son, Gordon, died in infancy. R.M. Hazelwood, 71 Main street, Grimsby, is a brother.
A funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Dr. Brown officiating, after which interment took place in the Wroxeter cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Messrs. R.J.Rann, D.D.Sanderson, F. Kitchen, A. McMichael, D. Weir and J. Smith.
Amongst many beautiful floral tributes were those from the Rotary Club of Bowmanville, Methodist Church and Women's Institute of Wroxeter. - Wroxeter News.
