In failing health for some time, Elizabeth Mary Matthews, widow of the late W.P. Duck, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lottie Walker, Grassie, Ont., on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1950, in her 81st year.
Born at Toronto, Ont. in 1869, daughter of the late Edward and Charolette Matthews, she married W.P. Duck at Bracebridge, Ont. in 1889 and later moved to Calgary, coming to Grassie in 1912. Her husband predeceased her in 1940.
The deceased was a member of Grimsby Anglican Church and spent many years as a Sunday School teacher.
Left to mourn her passing are three daughters, Mrs. L. Walker, Grassie; Mrs. C. Vickers, Grimsby; and Mrs. M. Southward, St. Catharines; two sons, Francis E. Duck (Ted); and Frederick Duck, both of Grassie; also 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The remains are resting at the Book Funeral Home, Smithville, until Thursday afternoon, when they will be taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Walker of Grassie, where a private service will be held on Friday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. following this will be a public service in Grassie Church at 2:30 p.m.
Interment will be made in Tweedside Cemetery.
