One of the oldest residents of Grimsby passed away on Thursday, February 28th, in the person of Julia Victoria Hudson, relict of the late Samuel Abraham Nelles, of Lake Lodge.
Mrs. Nelles was born in Toronto in 1837, but moved later with her parents to York on the Grand River.
She came as a bride to Grimsby in 1861 and has lived at Lake Lodge for the long period of 63 years. She survived her husband by 23 years.
In her younger days she took an active interest in the affairs of the community and always enjoyed good health until 3 weeks ago. Her passing was as gentle and peaceful as her life had been.
Mrs. Nelles was of English descent and was the daughter of David Hudson Esq., who emigrated to Canada in the early part of the nineteenth century. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Ida Nelles and Mrs. W.J. Drope, also 3 grandchildren, Harold, Gladys and Gordon Drope.
The funeral took place on Friday, February 29th, at St. Andrew's Church cemetery. The many beautiful floral offering testified to the esteem in which Mrs. Nelles was held by her relatives and friends.
