On Saturday, May 14th, the wedding took place in Trinity United Church of Margaret Ware, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.W.Powell, and Robert Garfield, son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. F.G.Kemp, both of Grimsby. The Rev. A.L.Griffith officiated.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was gowned in white satin and lace with a long train and veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Attending her were her two sisters, Dorothy and Ruth Powell, and the groom's sister, Dawn Kemp. They were dressed in periwinkle blue taffeta gowns with picture hats and gloves to match, and carried cerise roses.
The best man was Mr. Richard Cornell from Montreal. The ushers were Mr. Charles Corbitt from Lucan and Mr. Jack Arndall from Regina. Mrs. John Reid, a college classmate of the bride, was the soloist. She sang "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord's Prayer". The church was decorated with pink snapdragons and white lilacs.
The reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents. The bride's mother received in a cinnamon brown lace dress with a corsage of pink carnations, while the groom's mother wore a grey crepe dress with a corsage of ruby carnations and cream rosebuds.
Among the out of town guests attending the wedding were Miss Jean Cameron, New York; Mr. and Mrs. John Fee, Mrs. J.W. Powell, Ottawa; Mrs. S. Lapointe, Montreal; Miss Jessie York, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Sanders, Peterborough; the Misses Ellis, Kimberlee; Mr. and Mrs. W.T.Stewart, Powassan; Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Mowe, Stouffville; Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Laidlaw, Atwood; Mr. and Mrs. B.Kemp, Oakville, and numerous other guests.
On leaving the bride wore a wine suit, with a navy blue hat and pale blue flowers, and a corsage of roses. After the honeymoon the couple will reside in Hamilton.
